Being a huge fan of F1 racing I am always tempted to try/buy the F1 games from CodeMasters. I enjoyed both F1 2010 and F1 2011 on the 360. But the 360 is what it is and I now find it far more preferable to game using a PC than a console (GT5 on PS/3 being the one exception)... So I bought F1 2011 last spring for the PC and was very disappointed in the results. I have been thinking since then that the problem was that they used Windows Live for Games (and this was a problem). But this morning I decided that F1 2012 just had to be a great game and they just had to have gotten the support for PC gaming fixed (after all. they had wisely dumped WLfG). So even though I had already tried the demo of F1 2012 and been unimpressed... I foolishly thought the full game had to be better and so bought it off of Steam. First off - same steering problems as with the demo, like driving an oil tanker instead of an F1 race car wtf And reading the CodeMasters forum has so far given me very little hope that this issue can be resolved. Secondly, then made mistake of minimizing the game so I could check the forums for solutions. Instead of minimizing properly it goes into small visible window, which turns out to be 800x600? Trying to get the game back, I realize the graphics are now indeed set to 800x600. Third, console-centric design... seemingly endless clicking of a couple of buttons on the wheel to try to maneuver back to graphics setup screen. In regards to using a mouse for clicking on a well designed interface forget about it, this game was designed for a console and controller user period. Finally get the graphics set back to 5760x1080 and wtf it is now permanently windowed! Title bar across top of three screens and task bar at bottom of center screen. No amount of coaxing or restarting the game has yet fixed this, perhaps a delete/scrub and reinstall but in my current state of mind the reinstall is likely never to happen Anyways, I could probably live with the graphics issue if a reinstall did fix it, just learn never to minimize or alt-tab the game But the apparently screwed up support for wheel users basically seals my opinion of this game, AVOID IT!

I don't have the game, but on the latest ISR episode they mentioned that you can go in and change a controller setting in game to "wheel" and that seemed to help them. Have you tried that yet Sheldon?

Try ALT+Enter after clicking in the game window to force the app full screen?

I have the demo and I have to say after setting up the wheel it seemed fine and responsive and very fast and smooth, same issue with the Alt Tab it came back on my left hand screen all thin and weird...will try the Alt Enter fix...on saying that it does feel very console and it could well be a budget bin buy down the line.

That gives me some hope to hear that the wheel seemed to work well for you. I am currently using a Logitech DrivingForceGT, but perhaps I would have better luck with my CSR. The game does automatically pick up the DrivingForceGT, both the demo and full game did so and the mappings seemed to be all ok. It is just that as noted by some posters on the codemaster forum, it is like there is speed sensitive steering and/or the computer is trying to assist in steering. Does not feel right at all. Anyways I will try the Alt-Enter, although I suspect I had tried that as I tend to try a lot of keys and key combos (key mashing when the computer does not do as I want Also, need to get that CSR wheel hooked back up.

I was underwhelmed by the PC demo. The graphics are somewhat better, but the force feedback is overly heavy compared to F1 2011 on the.same settings. Very interested to see what you have to say Sheldon, as well as the ISR guys, who are working on their review.

yep, F1Fan was right still this is a graphically challenged game, Alt-Enter did full screen it but I now see periodic breakups of the screen when sitting at the main menu Also, spent the evening getting load cell replaced in CSP and replacing the DrivingForceGT with CSR and then testing CSR/CSP in various games (so no Efnet race for me again ). F1 2012 game still has basically same problem with CSR as with DrivingForceGT. Only thing is with the CSR you can try to adjust the settings (ie sensitivity) on the wheel itself instead of wasting effort trying to get the logitec profiler to work with Steam. However, even adjusting the CSR to 540 and then 270 still did not fullly make it better. The wheel is basically dead/lifeless when centered and at 270 it responds quicker then the DrivingForce did but the feedback seems heavy and sluggish, definitely not enjoyable.

Did you apply the filter? It's not great but I don't seem to be having quite such an awful experience...but then again I'm not rushing out to buy it so maybe I am...

Did you apply the filter? ... Filter? I did change the in-game settings for steering linearity, etc. And also settings on the CSR (just sensitivity). If I recall correctly when first starting the game after putting the CSR in place the game did show a 'Fanatec CSR' or something as selected controller. Then when you change a setting like steering linearity I think it showed as 'custom'.

There is a setting called Filter Controller or something like, I don't know what it does but it feels better when it is set to wheel, with it off it is awful around the centre steering...

I've been playing these on PC with some friends who really like the game. I admit sometimes I truly enjoy the game but for the most part, it's very meh. Compared to many games there is so little to enjoy other than a pretty good looking product. I'm not sure what's up with the wheel settings but there seems to be no center return now as compared to F12011. I have to yank both directions, into and out of corners to go back to center and yes the FF is so heavy.
I'll play with my buddies as that's fun but it's the last F1 game I'll buy that isn't a mod for something else (rf1, rf2 etc.).
The caterham's in pcars right now are the bees knees for feedback in my opinion. Light, fast, and it relays a sense of what the front wheels are doing. Man I can't get enough of them.

yeah, I have gone back a couple of times to retry this game after various patches and also to try some things I have read. But still feels like driving a boat not an F1 car (or at least what I imagine an F1 car would be like, I have driven a boat ). Have not tried it in the past week or so and I think there have been a couple patches so I will likely give it another go this weekend sometime. But all in all it is a big disappointment from the F1 2010 I recall on Xbox re: pCARS, what Caterham do you use? I did an online race earlier this evening at Infineon with the SP 300 and it was definitely a huge amount of fun ;D addendum: did a race after that at Laguna Seca using the Lotus 78 and it was likely best race I have had at pCARS, 6 laps right behind the leader waiting for him to make a mistake, unfortunately he didn't but still intense fun
