They are not using nor ever intend to use Steam for anything than a cash cow, nothing else. So nothing changes for the end user. All software, updates, cars and tracks will still be hosted by iRacing not Steam. I don't see why Steam would go with this personally.

Steam is just a huge new advertising venue for iRacing. I also have been having trouble finding races with more than a couple other drivers in them

LOL Knight.
This is becoming a major issue. I think Iracing needs to get this figured out quick. They charge way too much to have this to be happening on a regular basis.

I play iRacing as much as anyone else around here. I agree its a major issue, mostly because of the expense that comes with being a part of iRacing. That being said, it has rarely kept me from racing when I want to. PSN was down for months straight, and by that time, I had invested several hundred in GT5 for hardware and content. That was far worse than iRacing's current weekend connectivity issues.

As an individual I'll give you that, but as a total of people involved... iRacing takes it hands down.

The thing w/ PSN going down, it didn't prevent you from playing GT5. You just couldn't run online. Besides, PSN is a free service Sony provides.
iRacing goes down, it's a paid service you can't use in any way, shape or form. And you don't get any kind of credit/reimbursement for lost time. I missed out on an entire week's worth of races because the limited time I had available that week their services were down. Actually, I think it's happened 2 weeks out of the 6 now, but I was able to get 1 series race in. But as it is, I'm not going to even come close to getting the full credit for 8/12 series events entered now w/o purchasing another track or 2. If I'm lucky, I might get the $4 credit for 1 series...maybe. Needless to say, purchasing more content is not going to happen at the moment.

The thing w/ PSN going down, it didn't prevent you from playing GT5. You just couldn't run online. Besides, PSN is a free service Sony provides. PSN was down for several months. It was down because Sony was using an outdated server, without sufficient security. Therefore, it was hacked. My personal information, including my email address and credit card information, was likely stolen. Sony had to provide me with a year of free credit monitoring, most likely as part of a strategy to mitigate damages from the inevitable class action lawsuit. By the time PSN was down, I had finished playing all of the aspec and bspec events in GT5 and the only events that were worth playing were the seasonal events, which require PSN and an active Internet connection. I also was doing the Thursday night online sessions with you, Parcells, OldSlowFred and others, which of course we could not do while PSN was down. The online multiplayer is a huge part of GT5 and many other PS games and its why PD was OK in not offering nearly as much single player content compared to prior GT games. Also, PSN is not free. Yes, Sony does not charge a yearly fee, like M$ does for Xbox Live, but I also paid $200 more for my PS3 ($600) than the Xbox 360 ($400). My problem with iRacing being down, even for only an hour, is that its a costly service, and part of the justification for that premium cost is the 24/7 access to online multiplayer racing. But, although frustrating, the downtime is not nearly as bad as the PSN downtime was after it was hacked.
