Date: Sunday, March 9, 2014 Time: 6:50am PST (70 minute Warmup/Practice starts at 6:50am PST, Qualifying starts at 8:00am PST and a 40 minute race starts at 8:10am PST) Cars: Skip Barber (paid content) Track: Okayama (base content) Warm Up: 70 minutes Qualifying: 10 minutes, 4 laps Race: 40 minutes Tune: Open. Here is the set up from last month's race, per Troy's recommendation: Lime Rock.sto (366 B) Keep in mind that we will have to start on time, since there is no way I can change the race start time once we are in the sim. You can be late for warm up and qualifying and can come and go as you please. There will be unlimited Fast Repairs, so no one is left completely in the dust due to a mistake. Because you all are road purists, this will be a standing start. I have restricted fuel to 40% of max, which should force a pit stop or two. Also, we will use iRacing chat from now on for this and all over GBR iRacing events. Make sure you map a push to talk key before you jump on the track.

Personally, I prefer TS since it has voice activation. It won't deter me from racing of course.

It keeps us from hearing more than what is intended for us. That's fine. I am in the basement so I don't have that problem. I hate PTT so you won't hear much from me during the races. I don't think I even have a button mapped lol

What problems with TS? Unless something has changed at iR, the chat sound quality for hosted sessions is terrible.

I only hear it occasionally during the limited iRacing events I do, but my impression of the quality is not very good. It would be a shame to slip back to the Forza/xbox live chat days (shudder), one night of GT6/PSN is enough for me

I have run over 1200 official series races, plus dozens of hosted sessions. During all of these races, we used iRacing chat. It works fine and the sound quality is very good. It is easier to use for iRacing events. We can see exactly who is talking and each of us get immediate feedback on whether our mic is working. It also is easier for new guys, for whom TS may be a hassle. Last night my ears got blown out during Tony's race due to loud noise from one or more mics where guys were using voice activated sound via TS. It also is harder in iRacing chat for one guy to dominate the chat since each time you say something you have to press a button. That makes it easier for admin duties compared to TS. I personally have had trouble with TS for years. My chat quality seems to be fine with the new, wired headset, but I still have trouble adjusting the volume since I get no immediate feedback on whether the button press worked.

One other thing. With iRacing chat, we cannot talk over one another.

I have always pushed (no pun intended) for a universal PTT in any chat we use but constantly get blasted for it.
I am good either way with whatever we use.

I was one of the folks that originally resisted PTT but now see it as essential when I am sim racing. Lets switch to iRacing chat for the next few GBR iRacing events and see how it goes. If there are unforeseen problems, we can revisit.

The Skip Barber car is very basic with few adjustments and once you find a setup you like, it will work for any track. I can post the setup again if anyone wants it, but it will be the same as last month which you can find in the February race thread.
I will work on a track video and get that posted in the next few days.

Note that the Pacific timezone (and most of North America) will jump ahead one hour before this race. Those of you not on DST will have to adjust your time conversion.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Oh well. Had fun until the penalty. Wound up hot lapping by myself the rest of the way. Thanks again for hosting, Craig.
Have you given it any thought to the next car for this series?
