I haven't been on iRacing much lately. I've been working on getting back in shape. Season 3 just started this week so I decided to check it out the other day. They have really changed things around in a bunch of the road racing series.
The first thing I noticed and really liked is that now the Corvette has it's own series. I have always liked the Corvette, but didn't like racing it with the HPDs. I raced last night and had a lot of fun. I started 6th of 12 and finished 6th. I fell back to 8th for a while as some faster guys who didn't qualify passed me, then I worked my way past a couple of slower guys. It was a great race. Everyone I raced with was very respectful and didn't try anything crazy when we were close to each other. The guys that got by me were clearly faster and I didn't fight them when they caught up to me and the guys I passed didn't fight once I got the clear advantage on them.
Another series I really like is the Advanced Mazda Cup series. I have always liked the Mazda and have raced it many times. But it was fixed setup and you had to race a lot of rookies. It also had a very limited track selection. Now it is open setup on tracks it normally doesn't race on. I did a race last night at Daytona. I started 12th of 24. After a couple of laps I was up to 8th. Then someone pushed me off the track as I was passing them. Luckily I didn't hit anything and was able to get going again. I ended up finishing 14th. It was still a great race and I had a lot of fun with it.

I recently recieved a half price offer from iracing to renew so I went ahead and purchased. The latest build and series events is quit nice, the new tire update and grip levels is a very nice and completly eliminates the old "iceracing" that people lab led it. Iam still on the fence weather I like the model or not? Grip is great but after spending a lot of time with 2 other titles I find the tire detail feedback very dull in comparison. I think it's just due to two things.... My fanacrap gt3 which I just sold and am awaiting for the arrival of my thrustmaster tx with gte rim which I will hold judgment until then or its just the fact that iracing runs a lower physic rate. None the less Iam quit enjoying it this time around, the mp is hands down the best available and fits my gaming time. I've been running the mazda, kia/caddy and working on getting out of the rookie oval class and will most likely pick up the Ruf or z4 soon and do that series. Possibly even the indy car

Interesting about the Mazda... I'll have to give that a try.

Kurupt, I saw you in a Global Challenge split. Glad you are doing that series. Its the only road series I run.
I continue to do the NASCAR oval stuff. I also have tried a couple of open set up NiS series races. Good fun!!!!

Zero,
I noticed you did a couple of IndyCar oval races last week. What did you think of them? I haven't been racing that much lately. I got a little burned out. I'm just planning to do enough races this season to get my credits. Next season I will probably do a little more. Right now I have to take advantage of the good weather and spend more time outside.

Global challenge is fun, but they should change it to the caddy challenge as I've yet to see any more than 3 kia in a race which is a shame as they now handle and feel much better than original with the tire update. I watched empty box review of the indy car and it seemed pretty good so I might try it out next season. This has been the best summer in over 10 yrs here and I was able to get 6 weeks off so I've taken full advantage it before the deep cold hibernation is upon us so like jarhead Iam just collecting credits atm

To be candid, they were a little boring. The IndyCar is great, but it is way too easy to drive, the only skill needed is to avoid hitting other cars, particularly at a track like Michigan where you are flat out all the way around the track. When you do get hit, you are done. I still prefer the NASCAR truck and cars, where more skill is required to drive them, particularly the Cup car, and where you can bump and grind and still race.

So, I still can spend a fair amount of time outdoors with the kiddos and/or doing yardwork, and then do some racing before I hit the sack.

I love the feel of the car, the track selection, the 25 minute race times, the fixed set ups and the rolling starts. I even have a two race win streak going. I have gotten both wins on the last lap, where the leaders have spun out due to tire wear. LOL! Its sometime better to be lucky than good.

I drove the v8 the other day with a base tune from the developement series and I must say it's greatly improved now and fun to run and have contemplating running the series. My overall iracing rating has plummeted since returning so it can't get any worse lol Only thing stopping is the 6 tracks I don't conveniently are used in the v8 series

I decided to jump in a gt3 race using the mclerran today and I must say the ffb is spectacular! The racing was great as well I think I'll be sending more time in this car tweaking it as the latest update has really improved it and you can now attack the curbs without being launched into a spin. I started last out of 26 and picked my through the field till I was on the bumper of a 5th place Ruf heading into the corkscrew when he checked up slightly early and caught me be surprise as I had to hit the brakes and adjust my line to avoid contact which resulted in a spin as I must have clipped the dirt. No damage I dropped back 4 spots but battled back a 6th place finish. I'll take it considering I jumped in last min and used the base tune, I was able to shave off 4 secs with some tweaks but still about 2.5 sec of the aliens pace. Anyways looks forward to dialing this car in and running more in the series. I gotta give it to iracing for the great improvements they've made to the sim in the past few months

I think that the implementation of the New Tire Model Version 5 (NTM v 5) has been a real boon for iRacing, in that the cars are now easier to handle and the FFB feels closer to other next gen sims, including Assetto Corsa and rFactor 2. On the oval side, the cars are easier to handle and therefore more fun, the behavior of the cars seems more predictable. It is also easier to catch slides.

The tire model surely enhanced the overall effects on some of the cars, the mclerran with my wheel is up there in my top 2 sim cars for physics and overall feel. Some of the cars ffb effects were numbed like the mx-5, very easy to drive but lacks feedback. Atm I feel iracing has a well rounded combination of physics and Ffb effects. A couple of cars in rfactor 2 fell great and on those cars they have fantastic road feel. Pcars Imo has the most detailed effects in there tire model but lacks continual road feedback on straights and needs to get its physics dialed in but will all come in due time hopefully. Out of all the Sims assetto corsa is my least favorite atm in regards to overall I just find its way overdone with its effects there's so much going on that I can't get a good read on whats going on with the tires and feels like a loud rattling spring on my wheels and makes the tire grip feel like an on/off switch. But in its defense it's still a beta that I've spent very little time with to dial in. I like just tire flex data and suspension detail in my ffb and all the rattling can go through the buttkicker as I've found the more effects going through the wheel drowns out the subtle effects I look for and causes a springy feeling. Again all just personal preference

Not gonna lie I am absolutely addicted to the gt3 series especially the mp4-12 now that I've started dialing it in I've knocked off 5 sec of my avg pace. This week is at motegi which I haven't run since forza and it's absolutely mind blowing how different the tracks are in comparison to the laser scanned versions. I also dl a few more tracks to add to my collection including donnington which is absolutely beautiful. There 3d live crowds really add life to the tracks. I look forward to them updating the older ones and they seem to have exciting lineup in the works for road racing. Really hoping on dtm car I also took the v8 out for spin to see how the new tm and physic model were and it's a lot more manageable and exciting to drive than before !
