Did you notice the annual subscription is up 10% now? Was $100, now $110.
Definitely worth using that little trick to get some money back.

Yep, subscription cost went up. I got my $100 of credits for $75 to buffer against the cost increase, at least in part.

Black Friday subscription discounts are out, now until Dec 6. However they are down from the usual 50% to only 25% off. You should be receiving emails about it shortly if you haven't already.
I'm probably going to wait until actual Black Friday to see if they do anything else...but I'm doubting it.

iRacing is having another $100 for $75 deal for Cyber Monday, but you have to hurry, because it expires tomorrow Nov 29, 2016 at 2359 GMT (6:59 pm EST).

Black Friday membership pricing is 50% off right now: www.iracing.com/membership/If one were going to get in, is this the price to do it?

I can't remember a better deal than the 50% off other than some cheap three month promos with corporate tie-ins like Cadillac. I'd say $50 for a year is a good price to see if you like the service and then want to start paying (leasing as Chris says) for more content.

Last year they didn't even do 50%. 25% was as much as they did. If you wanted to dabble, yeah, that's as good of a deal as you are going to find.

Just know now... you'll be racing with some, um, special people in the initial rookie races (especially oval). It's even crazier after a signup deal like this.
Do your time, stay out of trouble and move up a license level where things start improving. If you decide to join we'll give you tips for fast track promotion.

LOL...now that you've said that, TBH, every time we start a new V8 Supercars series, just a little doubt starts creeping into my mind if I'm not one of those 'special people' too, but that's another topic. I'm really considering giving iRacing a go this time around, though. The membership pricing seems like as good as it will probably get with the Black Friday sale. Generally speaking, what kind of $$$ would you typically expect to spend on the other content? I know additional cars cost extra, I assume that the same applies to new tracks, anything else I should expect?

This is what I post on reddit when people ask about iracing. This is info from other GBR members.
Just a word of warning, while iRacing is the best online racing system, it can get expensive. So before you go making the leap to iRacing I thought you might want to know what some people have spent on it with subscriptions and content. These are a few examples of guys I race with. These numbers are from 2014 so the totals are probably higher 2 years later.
Driver 1 "From 2011-2014. The gross cost since late 2011 is $1027.55. Since then, I have gotten $152.95 in credits, for a net cost for iRacing alone of $874.60."
Driver 2 "$560 in 2 yrs"
Driver 3 "from 2010 - 2014 About $950"
Driver 4 "2012- 2014 $248"
Driver 5 "2012 - 2014 $768.00 with 91.00 credits= 677.00"
Driver 6 "$1089.26 and received $107.95 in credits since 12/28/2012. But I also still have $106.63 iRacing Dollars in my account and my subscription is good until 12/28/2017. My net cost for my first 2 years subscription plus buying all content is $824.63. Yes, a rather large initial investment, plus the $6000+ I have spent on my racing rig and PC. But from here on, the upkeep costs are very minimal. I make sure I keep plenty of iRacing dollars in my account when they have the $100 for $75 deals. So when new content releases, I get it for 47.5% off when you add in the 30% for owning everything. And I already explained how I get the subscription for $3 per year."
So depending on how much content you want to buy (tracks, cars,) the cost can change dramatically. It can add up pretty quickly so I just wanted to let you know. Good luck!!

Expensive yes. Worth it? I think so. The competition ranges from easy to alien... in fact you'll see a few real racers from time to time. Rubens Barrichello, Max Verstappen, Robert Kubica, for example... though I've never raced against those guys I've been in races with Scott Speed, Ritchie Hearn, Ashley Sutton (2017 BTCC Champ), Scott McLaughlin, Shane Van Gisbergen... Generally speaking, what kind of $$$ would you typically expect to spend on the other content? I know additional cars cost extra, I assume that the same applies to new tracks, anything else I should expect? Most content is $12-15 USD. Once you decide to jump into a series expect to buy the car and about 6-8 tracks (if you want to run every week) so you're in the region of $100. Luckily, iRacing has a small amount of tracks compared to rFactor so once you own them, you will use them in several series. JImmy's quotes are about right... $1000 over a few years as you accumulate content is about right if you run several cars/series over time but it's up to you. There's a lot of racing with included content and just a little additional stuff. Pay attention to the participation numbers before jumping into a series. You could spend a ton of money to run the V8SC series then discover there are only one or two races per week for your timezone (it's not real popular) or you could run the Skip Barber series and have races every hour for the whole 12 week season. You can reduce the costs a bit with: - participation credits (up to $40/year see below) - There are quantity price breaks (I think 10% for three pieces) - "loyalty" discounts (I get automatic 20% off for owning 40+ pieces of content) - $100 account credit for $75 deal

Thanks. So, altogether it sounds like you could expect for a typical year in iRacing to run in the ballpark of $200-250 per year depending on the different series you pick and the amount of discounts you earn. Up front is probably going to be a little more, just to get up to speed purchasing additional content. That's helpful.

Yeah.
After about 5 years I was paying annually about $50/yr membership and $50-100 in content as new stuff was released. Some big releases lately mean new content: dirt cars and tracks which I didn't buy and the upcoming rallycross which I'll probably dive into.

One thing to look at once you’re out of Rookie is a series that takes the cost into account and tries to use each track at least three seasons in a row. If you’re trying to spend your money wisely you can buy tracks that will be in the following seasons and skip those that are going out of rotation. The respective forums will have info stickied.
