Hey guys,
I upgraded my hard drive last weekend and ended up reinstalling Windows 7. I have used Microsoft Security Essentials in the past, but for some reason when I download the install file it says it's corrupt. I messed with the settings, but have had no luck.
I went ahead and installed the free version of AVG. Is this is a decent AV program? I am looking for something that will protect my PC, but not bog it down like Norton and McAfee seem to do.

MSE is the way to go. I'd try to resolve the corruption issue. Perhaps download to a different PC and copy it to a memory stick?
If you notice any other corrupt downloads you might want to talk with your cable company. I'm only mentioning that because you're suddnely having race hosting problems too.
I had an issue last year where 1 in 5 downloads were corrupted. It turns out that my ISP was making upgrades to increase network capacity at the time. I'm not a network geek but IIRC it was something to do with converting large frames to small frames at the neighbourhood node level... i.e., how they were tuning performance in their infrastructure. I never got an explanation but after finally talking to an upper level technician the problem suddenly fixed itself.

I just downloaded the install that Jeff posted and it works great. Thank you for your help.
I'm tempted to go buy a new router, but my Netgear N300 is less than a year old. I get solid download speed when I check speedtest.net (40 down, 20 up), but something doesn't seem quite right.

MSE. I would try to download and install it again. Also, make sure you add Spybot, Ccleaner and MalwareBytes, all of which are also free.

Yeah, you need to upgrade that router. I have the Netgear N600. It has performed very well. No issues. Excellent WiFi range and speed. It's dual band as well and its got a USB port to hook up a back up drive.

AVG works, but it's a pain in the ass to get out of your system if you decide to change it later.

No idea how the fuck it got there. Due solely because of that, I would never use any of their stuff. Hell, now it even open 2 tabs.....
