I tried the inters last night and I only get maybe a lap or so more out of them than the softs before they go yellow and I'm about 2 seconds slower with them. So here's my thinking: 84 minutes and approx. 1:45 a lap comes out to around 57 laps. So with that, I'm probably looking at 5 stops with soft tires. I'm not sure I could do it in four stops with the inters. Decisions, decisions.....

ugh! I am struggling to get out of the 1:50's. My issue is I know nothing of car setup, I did change my gearing so I don't top out at 168mph but other than that I am at a total loss. I was watching from your POV and was blown away at how fast you could stop and get around corners, I slip and slide all over the place. Any tips on where to begin with setups?

Thanks! Let me tell you, when I first started with this group, I was lapped traffic for a good long while. So hang in there! It will come to you. Yeah, for this track you'll want the highest gear, a 3:15 I think. You said the car is sliding, like the rear end is loose? I would start by softening the rear anti-roll bar. I think some guys even run it detached. It it's still loose, next I would start dropping the rear springs.
I usually have my HUD set to tire temps while I'm turning laps and watch which tires are getting the hottest. Then I try to adjust until the tires are heating up more evenly. If the car is loose, the rears heat up more. If the car is tight, the fronts will heat up more. So, in general, if the car is loose, soften the rear, stiffen the front. If the car is tight, stiffen the rear, soften the front.

Great words of advice from the 2 time V8SC Champ.
I would find a good, base tune you are comfortable with, then tweak it slightly for each specific track. This way you start to get comfortable with the car and will be able to learn just how much you can push it.
Jeff is amazing with how late he can brake going into a corner. I tend to brake earlier than most, but try to get into the throttle sooner. I'm not as quick, but try to aim for consistent lap times that I can hit lap after lap.
The key is to not get frustrated early. If you stick with it, the car is actually fairly easy to drive, but just takes time to get used to.

Also don't try to trail brake or rush these cars into a corner. The rear suspension is surprisingly primitive and these are heavy cars.
Get most of your braking done in a straight line, turn in and feed in the power.

It's an exhibition race. It's the perfect time try running in traffic and get a taste of the action. No points, so no worries!

Now is the time to jump in. This is why we hold 1 or 2 exhibition events before each season so it gives the newer guys a chance to race when there is nothing at stake. Also gives the vets a chance to try different strategies and tweaks they might not normally try during a championship event.
It's all about fun, so don't worry about getting in guys way. One of the reasons we use Teamspeak is so we can talk to each other during a race and let the other guy know where we are.
One simple rule is if you are getting lapped, stick to your line and don't hit your brakes suddenly. If there is a safe place to move over to let them by that's great, but don't make a sudden move because you are worried about getting in their way. When the driver is about to pass, he should state his intention before making the move. For example, "TenBear, I'm coming up on you and will pass at the straight on your right."

Remember, also, that it's the leader's responsibility to find a safe way around you. He has a much better field of view. Just hold your line and they will find a way around.

I just adjust downforce, gears & camber to suit the track nothing else. I usually run pretty high D/F on most tracks too.

Yeah, just feel out the sim. Most new drivers will screw up something related to the race start procedure (right Smokey?!?! ) or the rules (pit speed violation, etc) so it's good to get it out of your system now then when the season starts it's all instinctive.

neverender158We use team pits (usually two cars per pit) so between now and the start of the season pick a car here: gbr.proboards.com/thread/326/team-pits-car-choice and stick with it. The reason for this is to avoid a bunch of people picking the Vodafone car (for example) then causing mayhem when pitting. The mod is designed to try to allocate pits by V8 teams like in real life so... Vodafone cars share a pit, FPR cars share a pit, etc. Maybe don't mess with that before the race unless you have some time to test.
