This is for rfactor and not rfactor2, in fact rfactor2 runs much better than rfactor at the moment. I just installed it for the first time today and was testing it out but it runs very poorly on my system. It is stutters and the FPS drops significantly when I turn my wheel. When I am trying to drive I am getting FPS in the 30's.
My setup is as follows: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33ghz 8 GB of ram Windows 7 64-bit OS Galaxy GTS 450 video card. DFGT w/CSR Elite pedals
I know this is an older machine (I bought it in 2009 and have only upgraded the video card and OS) but I would think it could handle rfactor better than it is now.
I have no mods installed or anything. All help is greatly appreciated. I was trying to get this up and running so I could try to join the V8 supercar series.

Two ideas:
1) Update wheel drivers? You could be having issues when FFB is being calculated.
2) Try to create a shortcut for rFactor and in the properties add +fullproc so it looks similar to this:
"C:\Program Files\rFactor\rFactor.exe" +fullproc
this ensures that rFactor uses two cores

I changed the shortcut and added the +fullproc but still not working. My fps in the car is 290 and as soon as I turn the wheel it drops to 100.

That is odd, No idea about this. But as long as it stays above 60 there should not be any stuttering one would think.

Yeah it's weird fraps shows 3 digits for the fps but it stutters like it is closer to 20 fps.

This is asked a lot around here so you may have checked it already, but do you shut down background processes.

Run the game in Windowed Mode (check box in rFConfig.exe), open up Task Manager and see if any process is spiking CPU% when you turn the wheel. My guess is the wheel drivers and/or Logitech Gaming Software (if the DFGT uses that) is freaking out.

ugh, so sorry for wasting everyone's time. So I unplugged my wheel, killed the logitech profiler, plugged the wheel back in and restarted the logitech profiler and it is running great now, 300+ fps. So now I just need to mess with it and get the V8 supercars loaded and hopefully join in all the fun.
thanks again for all the help. I should have just done what my wife always does and turn it off and turn it back on.

The power of P2P networks! The show was never broadcast here, AFAIK.
