The participation in our iRacing League events has been a little weak lately. Although the V8SC series has seen record breaking fields for the last 3 races, our last 6 iRacing events have had less than 10 racers in each of them.
I have made quite a few friends on iRacing in my time there. I would like to start recruiting some of them to join the GBR iRacing League. I would submit their names here for approval first of course. I would just like to get better participation in the events and I don't see that happening with the membership here. The focus here is on rFactor which I understand, but since there is a GBR iRacing league it should be allowed to grow as well.
Please let me know your thoughts, especially the regular iRacing participants.

My two cents goes like this. We have tried to add non-GBR guys to our GBR iRacing group and none of those guys, including Darin Gangi, have become active participants. My suspicion is that its difficult for them to communicate with us, because they are not GBR members and thus they cannot access our GBR iRacing forums. If we want to boost attendance, I see two options. First, we should market more to existing GBR members who we know have iRacing. Second, we can urge good guys we meet in our iRacing travels to apply for GBR membership, including the guys Troy has in mind.
Keep in mind that the primary purpose of the GBR iRacing events is to respond to the iRacing interest within GBR. Inviting non-GBR guys into our GBR iRacing league cuts against that to some extent.

I also would add that comparing GBR iRacing events to GBR V8 Supercars events is like comparing apples to oranges. People don't join GBR because of our iRacing league or events. But, they do join GBR because of our core V8 Supercars series. I know that is why I joined. Its perfectly natural that we have more guys running V8 Supercars and I don't expect that to change.

One other thing. I checked the participation numbers for our GBR road racing and GT racing events over the last several months. Troy correctly identifies a downward trend in participation, but its slight. We have had a high of 11 guys participating and a low of 7 guys participating. If you compare that to other GBR events, it compares favorably, excluding V8 Supercars of course.

I agree that if we would like to recruit anyone into GBR, they should first apply here at the GBR forums. And I also understand that the focus here is rFactor and the V8SC is the premier series.
So far I have only asked 2 people from outside GBR to join our races. One is the exact opposite of Kelly, he is an oval only racer and I doubt we will ever see him in a road race. The other one is broke and only has a few cars and tracks besides base content, and recently his iRacing membership expired and he can't renew it right now. He joined us for the SRF event at Summit Point.
I would really like to have some bigger grids on iRacing. Can we recruit members into GBR specifically for iRacing or is rFactor a requirement to join?

I honestly prefer to race with the GBR regulars if we have an iR series. The whole point is to enjoy the races with the guys we've known for some time between here and 2O4F. If I wanted to race against guys I didn't know, I could join countless other leagues or just race in an official series. My $.02

While I dont play iracing much (only for potential gbr events) I do look to see if anything being run is free content and I can find time to run it. Now having said that I know my opinion isnt really relevant but, I +1 Zeds statement.

Yes, but racing that person only once or twice a month hardly qualifies. I feel that even the V8 series is losing some of the close-knit feeling. More than half of those guys only participate in that one series. Balancing growth and the community isn't easy...I realize this. Seems to miss some je ne sais quoi

My take on the GBR League is it's a place for us to hang out over there and shoot the shit. My initial intent when I created the league was to have a safe place for new GBR/iR members to learn the system there before launching into the license progression. Our numbers are down because several guys let their memberships lapse which is fine. I never had visions of growing over there... it's just a GBR sandbox. There are iRacing leagues to join for higher participation racing (I ran with the racingleague.nl guys for a while)... there's little need for us to be organizing and expanding. That said, Troy if you wanted to organize something under a different name (that is, your own league made up of people you've met) you'd probably have some of us follow. I have no real attachment to the GBR league at iR. If our league fades away from lack of use then so be it. However, Craig is doing a great job trying to come up with new combinations for fun and I don't mind getting up early on Sundays to jump in and run laps as long as it's not just him and me there.

Seems to miss some je ne sais quoi Zed, I don't disagree, hence the notion that we will not admit new guys into the GBR iRacing league unless and until they become GBR regulars. Dale, you hit the nail on the head. As much as I like racing with you, we both know who would win everytime if its just you and me on the track.....

Alrighty...it's your show Craig and as Dale pointed out you are doing a stellar job. I wish I could run the GT cars but Sundays in the day are tough. Hell, I'd run all of the Sunday races if I could.

Look guys, I'm not asking to open up our races to everyone on iRacing. I have a growing friends list over there, but only a few select ones I would consider for GBR membership. Only the ones who are mature, clean racers who aren't in it to win at all costs. They all have the same interest in sim racing as the rest of us here.
This league has grown with members from 2O4F, SPAZCAR, efnet, and other areas, why can't it grow from a few iRacers?

They just have to go through the same application process as everyone else on GBR. If they get accepted, and want to join our GBR iRacing league, they are in.
