This weekend the Cup series is at Sonoma, and of course that means that the NASCAR iRacing series is at Sonoma as well. Its a 55 lap jaunt, no full course cautions. I did 50 or 60 laps of practice this week and so I felt ready. I was in one of the middle splits, which I barely made because iRacing crashed about 15 minutes before the race!!! Anyway, I started 23rd, based purely on iRating. My mission was simply to avoid wrecks and spin outs. I was completely successful!!! I only had to pit once for fuel and tires around lap 35. There were lots of wrecks and spin outs but I managed to avoid all of them. I was able to advance 13 spots and finish 10th. A top 10 was more than what I could reasonably expect. What surprised me even more was how much I like driving the Cup car on a road course. It takes total concentration, particularly on throttle control, but it was very fun and rewarding. I wish iRacing would do more NASCAR road racing. For example, they should have the Nationwide car at Road America this week, just like in real life. Good stuff!!!

That's awesome Craig - congrats on the top 10! I'm sure that car is a handful to keep on the track. Hmm...maybe you are more of a road racer than you want us to believe?

Awesome Craig. Wish I could have been there to crew chief that one. But the wife had me changing the faucet in the kitchen sink. Took several hours including the drive to Lowes to buy one. And I'm not a plumber so any plumbing project takes me at least 4-5 times as long as it should.
