Well, the unthinkable happened this weekend. This week's Global Challenge official series track is VIR. This is the series with the Caddy and the Kia. I did my usual 15-20 laps of practice with the Caddy and felt pretty good about the track. I had a set up that seemed to be good for this track, it was originally created for Sonoma. Anyway, I finally got into an official race on Saturday, even though participation for this track was really low. I got into the race and started sixth out of six Caddies. There were five or six Kias, including some high iRating guys. Anyway, the top three blew past me after a couple of desperate laps of me trying to hold them off and get a sufficient lead. They ended up easily beating me. This was the first time I was not wrecked that I lost to any Kias while driving the Caddy. My self esteem is quite low, perhaps I should go back to Forza??? Well, that won't work since I am slow in Forza as well. At least my kids and wife still think I am OK.

That is a tough track to figure out. At least you went out there and did it. I didn't even try. I was watching your race for a while and was wondering why you had some KIAs ahead of you. I thought you had an early crash or off track. Then I noticed you weren't catching them, so I checked the lap times and they were faster. It's always tough when someone is in a car that is "slower" than yours passes you, but it's just part of racing with aliens.

There was a guy in the inracing series with the mx5 and solstice...he qualified a full sec ahead of everyone using a solstice and ended up winning the race by 38 secs in a 10 lap race? Dude was crazy fast I believe his fastest lap was a 1.41.6 out of all the races the fastest mx5 time I've seen to date is a 1.42.7. How is the Kia overal? When I saw it at COTA it sounded pretty badass What's the avg time difference between the caddy and Kia.....if iam correct they were both running in the gt class in Austin unless it was a multi class gt race ?

The Kia is a lot of fun to drive. It is front wheel drive, which takes some adjustment. The series is getting some heat because there is not enough performance differential between the two cars. The top end Kia drivers sometimes complain that the lower end Caddy drivers are too slow. IMO, the Kia is faster in the turns. You can get away with more oopsies than the Caddy. The Caddy obviously has the advantage on the straights. When I drive the Caddy, I have little trouble getting ahead of the Kias, even on the tough tracks. That being said, VIR is especially tough and the Kias can keep up quite well in the curvy parts. I just could not get enough distance on the straights to fend off the aliens. The best lap for the top Caddy driver at VIR in my race was 1:50. The best Kia was 1:56. IMO, that is not enough of a performance differential. Everybody is not going to be fast at every track, that is the reality of sim racing.

VIR is a weird track... I can see it clicking with some drivers who would dominate. As good as I think I am at Mosport is as bad as I am at VIR. Hate, hate, hate that track.

I don't mind the track, I just cannot find any speed on it. It reminds me of Oran Park, to some extent, with the elevation changes. But, at Oran Park I was able to keep the Kias in my rear view mirror.
