Race 1 went well for me, nothing to exciting there. But Race 2 on the other hand I have mixed feelings about. I was doing well until lap 3 when I spun out going into turn 3 and dropped to 21st. I had done a test race offline and knew I would be doing a 2 stop so I was not trying to save my tires in anyway. For whatever reason I felt I had this track dialed in. I was able to get into a really good flow with it so I knew I could make up some ground. I moved all the way up to 9th at one point and finished 14th which I was excited about. I think if I had 1 more lap I could have gotten past P Sweeney. We had a good battle going the last few laps of the race and I could see his tires were gone with each turn but I just ran out of laps.
This was probably my best race of the season so far and I should have finished higher if I hadn't spun myself early on.
My greatest achievement was having a tie with Jeff Hooper on most overtakes at 24! Congrats to John for both wins, we all knew this day would come during this season. Congrats to all the podium finishers as well.

Congrats on our first win John and backing it up with a second win, nice job!!
Never could get a good handle on this track and this was the first time I had ever raced on it. Qualy went ok got close to my PB but but just couldn't pull off anything good.
Race 1: Got a good start and stayed about where I qualyed untill the end when my tires went bad. I had Collins dogging me most of the last half of the race and on the last lap just had nothing left and he got by.
Race 2: Not the greatest start but was ok, going into turn 3 a couple of cars got tangled up in front of me and in my attempt to gain some spots from my 6th position and clear them I got tagged. Ended up off track and came back on in 23-24th, made a few spots back up but that took the wind out of my sails. Racing in the back was a large pack and was a little messy at times but gained some more spots to end up floating around just out of the top 10. I really had no pit stratagy and ended up going with a 2 stop forgetting to turn off damage in the first one and taking on too much gas also. The last couple of laps I was really trying to hunt down Chris on his worn tires, but couldn't pull it off coming to the line.
Really not liking this track at all, some tracks are fun to hot lap on but don't race good this one is neither.

Race 1 was not bad. Could have done better but I was trying to save my tires early fro a late race charge, but I charged too late and dropped to 4th due to an error. Congrats to John for the double win last night. Very rewarding when the cars are this close. CONGRATS again !!!! Race 2 could have been better too, but I knew I was gonna try and make a one stopper work and could have pulled it off due to my tire management. I cruised until 1/2 tank and then pushed a bit too hard and burned off my tires before my pit stop. Smokey got by me and I half spun on pit entry and lost about 20 seconds. Had I not lost that 20 seconds I could have won by 10 seconds to spol John's double.....woulda coulda shoulda. I was happy to finish 3rd and overall was a great fun night of racing. Thanks again to all who come out and run and to the admins for giving us a nice playground

Great video and great reflexes Tony. Thanks for not ripping my trunk open like it was a Christmas gift on the start. lol. I had to stop because the car in front of me hadn't taken off yet and I was going to rip his trunk off. lol.
Looking at the vid I see you saw the spike differently than I did. On your screen it's like I just turbo'ed right past you but on my screen I literally went right through your car.

Thanks guys, it felt like a long time coming, even if I've only been here a couple months. I'll be a little less uptight about the whole thing now, whether I win the championship or not. Just felt off, not finding victory lane while ALSO being consistently competitive. Last night, despite everyone disliking the track (and I still do), was a perfect night of racing in terms of how this SERIES works. It was about as close to the real thing as you can get. Race 1 has the two quickest guys going door-to-door for the win, tires thrown out the window, a real shootout on Intermediates, which I knew I'd be strong on. We were virtually even in Sector 1, then I'd be quicker in Sector 2, then he'd pull away a bit in Sector 3. I got a nose in multiple times at Turn 7 and 8, but just couldn't close the deal. We were DEAD even, so I just needed a mistake, which I got when he ran the first chicane wide. Great racing with Nick--although there were a few scary moments when his lag caused his car to hover left and right randomly! Then Hooper apparently used the ol' "rattle his cage" move to get by Nick and took off after me. I could maintain the gap even though my tires were GONE with three or four laps to go. He'd catch up to me a lot in the first two sectors but I seemed to get through 11 and 12 way better. But Race 2? That was all V8 Supercar there, and way more fun for me. Battled Nick again in the opening laps, but he seemed to have a LITTLE more pace than me on Softs, compared to how equal we were on Inters. On the other hand, in a surprising twist, I was actually able to stretch my Softs further than him! So he pitted on Lap 7ish, and unfortunately had some trouble and got a stop-n-go, so that was it for him. At which point it came down to a classic tire strategy battle, with Smokey and Nelson trying to stretch it on one stop, versus me on two stops. I stretched the first stop to Lap 11 but seeing Nick out of the picture and realizing Smokey and Nelson were going long, I decided to pit slightly earlier, with 6 laps to go. Those final 6 laps were probably the hardest I've ever driven, and thankfully traffic was nice to me too. I knocked out a few fast laps, including that 18 I didn't know I had in me. Nelson slipped off the track at Turn 5, leaving me just Smokey to deal with. Had this race been ONE shorter lap, he would have taken the win. I caught him just as we started the last lap, and while I was certainly faster, he put himself in the low line through every corner. We went side-by-side through Kitome Corner but he managed to maintain momentum down Shannon's Straight and keep the inside at 10... So I just drove as hard as I could around the outside and we went side-by-side again down Falken Straight, where I was finally able to just barely out-brake him into the final two corners! Great, great racing all around. And hey, I won with tire strategy!!!! EDIT: I hope there's a video review of this one.

But Race 2? That was all V8 Supercar there, and way more fun for me That reminds me of my fight with Armando in Race 2. In what must've been a horrible flashback to Queensland I was all over him with better tires in the closing laps. The difference here was that there was no way by and I followed for a long time. With two to go it was time to pull on my big boy pants and force a move. Braking zones got ragged, tires got hot, paint was swapped and then I got past him.

Sorry to who ever I smashed into and spun in race 2. I'm still a rookie and a bit overzealous in these V8's. I like to run clean and not cause any trouble on the track but made a critical mistake and was way to heavy on the gas pedal.

I'm glad I popped in last night to the race. Part of my point was to prove that the driving aids do benefit the series. Winton was a track that I run before but never very successful at. I also did not practice very much for the race maybe about a half an hour. But I feel confident enough that if I had traction control an ABS I could keep the car on the course. I had no grand visions of a winning or even being upfront, but I felt if I could hold the car on the track and complete the event then the proof was there, but for someone like me who can only pop in once in awhile, the driving aids help make it fun. A one-stop strategy in race 2 netted me a mid pack finish. Overall I was glad I was able to attend and have a good time. Thanks for hosting and continuing to allow some help (the aids)for those of us who can't make it on a regular basis and can't devote hours and hours to practice.

No problem Brian, we've all been there (it wasn't me who you smashed into by the way). It takes time to learn these cars and this is a very competitive series. It's very easy and very tempting to overdrive these cars, but no good ever comes of that. Just remember if you see the blue flag, that means a lapping car is closing in. Just maintain your normal racing line and the faster driver will find a way to get by you. Typically a good spot is on a straight, then you can simply ease off the throttle a bit so the faster car can get by before you both go into a tight corner and you are both at risk then. There was a lot going on during a race with 25+ cars, especially on a tight, windy, slippery track such as Winton. I love this track, but it's exhausting for sure! Glad to have you onboard bud and keep at it.

The aids are there for that exact reason, so guys who aren't regulars or have a heck of a time keeping on track can still get through a race in one piece. Hope you are able to join us more often bud! Enjoyed hearing some Spazter banter in the V8's again last night.
