25 years of Madden Football

Long before I became addicting to sim racing, I was a hardcore football gamer. Once my mother agreed to finally let me play football my freshman year of high school, the video game addiction began.

It all started with the original Tecmo Bowl on the Nintendo (NES). It didn't keep any stats, but I would play entire seasons and manually track each play and tally it up at the end of the season. When I got to college, my addiction to Tecmo Bowl continued with Super Tecmo Bowl. My fellow college teammates set up tournaments where we would meet up at each others dorms or apartments and play. Of course I was always the Seahawks, except one year where they sucked so bad I had to use the Oilers to be able to compete.



Getting back to my Madden theme. As you know, I have been booted out of my man cave to allow my oldest daughter to move in. I have always been somewhat of a video game hoarder as I still have my original Atari 2600, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, Xbox, and of course the Xbox 360. All of these are in boxes in the garage at the moment and I was cleaning stuff out and realized I still have darn near every Madden ever made over the course of it's quarter century existence (this also made me realize just how old I'm getting).

During my "cleaning" I was able to find 23 of the 25 editions of Madden. I couldn't find Madden 94 (Sega Genesis) and could only find the manual for Madden 99 (N64). I also realized that from 2002 - 2006, I couldn't even settle for one platform. I had the game for both Xbox and PC those years and even had 3 versions in 2006 when the Xbox 360 came out. Wow, was I sick or what (I know, I probably still am in many ways).

Since I had gone this far, I snapped a photo of all my Maddens together at last! LOL.

Love it man. I don't have many of the PC games, I think I only have Madden 2003 for PC, but I otherwise have all the Xbox 360 versions, as well as multiple Xbox and PS2 versions. I might have to get mine out soon and snap a pic.

I was the same with NHL having every yr from 93 it wasn't until last yr I didn't purchase the game. My sim racing addiction has kicked in the past 2 yrs and aside from mass effect 2 I've only purchased race games

I completely understand Hawks. I'm not into sports games, but I have been a game hoarder for years. I recently brought 27 Xbox 360 games and 2 old broken Xbox 360 consoles into gamestop for in store credit. I got just over $300. It was the first time I have ever traded games. My wife is constantly after me to get rid of old stuff I don't use. I have to give in once in a while before she starts throwing stuff away while I'm not home.

Wow, we must be married to the same woman Troy. My wife has been on me for years to clean out my game collection. As many of you may recall, I did just that last year during the "great trade in" with Game Stop, during which I ended up getting more than $900 of in store credit, which I used to get the extra PS3 and 360 consoles, and extra Forza and GT5 copies that I needed for Operation Triple Screen. Since then, I traded the two extra 360s back in and used the proceeds to get my kids a Wii U, which they of course don't play right now.

I did not trade in any of my Madden or NCAA Football games. I want to collect those, although admittedly my collection pales in comparison to Hawks' collection.

Hey guys, just curious, what are you guys doing with your games and systems that you are no longer playing? I am in the middle of cleaning out stuff in the garage. I have brought back to Game Stop most of what they will take, including our Wii console and games and most of my Xbox 360 and PS3 games. I have kept some, such as the many versions of Madden and NCAA Football for sentimental reasons, plus they won't give me jack on the trades. I also am in the process of trading in my older systems and games to the local used game store, Big City Gamin. I recently realized that I have no interest in collecting video games and consoles. I cannot recall a single time where I said, "gee, its been a while since I played Halo on the old Xbox, I need to set that up and play it."

My old consoles are sitting in boxes in the garage. Last summer I fired up both my NES and Sega Genesis and let the kids play some Mario and Sonic. Other than that they are just collecting dust. I probably should give that stuff away, but am always reluctant to do so. Don't know why other than I'm sick.

On a side note, I gave my oldest my PSP and I have tons of old Nintendo games loaded on it. She is hooked on the original Super Mario. I ended up getting another PSP off Craigslist so my youngest didn't get left out. My wife is pissed as she hates video games.

Now the rule is no gaming during the week for the kiddos. I told her I'm damn near 40 years old so that rule won't apply to me.

Ha, funny you say that... I was looking at my Xbox in the closet a while ago and remembering that I was almost finished Halo and wondered if I should fire it up. In the end I remembered how horrible FM1 looked the last time I connected the XBox and figured maybe that piece of history was best left how I remembered it.
