I've been mostly practicing for the Star Mazda race on Sunday, but I also like to do some official races too. I didn't really want to do the Star Mazda race because I don't want to get used to the wrong track. So I ran a Skippy race. The track this week is Sebring which I know very well.
I practiced until I felt comfortable and could run clean laps. I didn't get a chance to qualify, so I started from the pits. If I had been on the grid I would have started 10th. There were 15 in my split, but 2 didn't show up so 13 in the race.
Starting from the pits paid off. There was a big pile up in T1 which I was able to avoid. There were also some other carnage on the 1st lap, so by the start of the 2nd lap, I was running 6th. From there I just kept a steady pace and tried to keep the car on the track. I had 1 off track which I had to do to avoid running someone over who had spun out. I had one more off track when I over cooked a corner. Other than that I ran a clean race and didn't hit anything.
I started picking off cars one at a time starting with lap 2. Some made it easy by going off track, and others I had to work for. By the end of the race, I was up to 2nd. No way could have caught 1st place, his lap times were 2 to 3 seconds faster than mine and beat me by almost 42 seconds.
Felt good to get out there and race against some real people. Really looking forward to Sunday's race. Don't care where I finish, just want to have plenty of competitors and a good clean race. See you all then.
