Reiza has proposed a new idea regarding all the upcoming features and have asked the community if they would be OK with creating a whole new game to avoid any issues and bugs with the current title. New ui, features and tech also the possibility of adding Ftrucks to title.
It also looks like the winner of the community choice car will be reiza rendition of a gt3 porsche series.....sweet!
Reiza post:
THE IDEA
As you are aware, we have now released v1.50 for Stock Car Extreme - one of the additional releases funded by the campaign you all kindly contributed to. Once again, we would like to thank you all for giving us the opportunity to continue this push foward!
While we are still continuing to push towards the development plan we outlined in the campaign, we are now evaluating a possible adjusting of these plans, for which we would like to gather some feedback from you all. Please take a minute to read this
We are still working on the content / features we proposed in the crowdfunding campaign plus a few more tidbits (you will know more about these soon). As you know our original plan was to release these developments through an additional batch of updates for SCE, and then add the relevant updates also to Formula Truck 2013.
We are now however considering the possibility of repacking these updates, and releasing it as a standalone, new sim, separate and parallel to both Stock Car Extreme & Formula Truck 2013.
This however would NOT be the new title referred to in the campaign (the one featuring a DX12 graphics engine amongst other things), then estimated for Q4 2016 (but now certain to run into early 2017).
For the sake of better understanding and dicussing this topic, let´s call our big incoming crowdfunded project as Reiza2015, and our 2017 "new title" as referred to in the campaign as Reiza2017.
Several recent developments have led us to this belief we could and should push on with a clean slate already for Reiza2015, and to release that within the next couple of months (we are aiming to have a first public beta for you by late december 2015) - again, completely independent to the existing SCE or FTruck, most likely as a Steam release only.
If we were to go foward with this plan, Stock Car Extreme and Formula Truck 2013 would receive just final updates for some relevant bug fixes, before their development is considered wrapped up for good.
Plans for Reiza2017 would not be directly affected (its development timeline running a bit longer than originally predicted is going to happen anyway).
THE REASONS
Reasons why a fresh start now for Reiza2015 would be a positive move are several - below I´d like to share with you a few main points of the rationale behind it:
Development: There are fairly in-depth changes incoming, which although very evolutionary in nature to SCE as it stands, are substantial enough to warrant a new title.
A new platform could allow us to expand even further than we have already planned for, including some very cool new features and community tools;
Product management: continuing development, maintenance & support for multiple older releases, both inside and outside Steam is proving increasingly difficult for us, and cumbersome for users; it adds cost, takes up development time and increases the opportunity for bugs and mistakes as we have to test all these versions separately;
Continuity for existing titles: as recent experience shows, big changes can cause some friction with an existing userbase as they are used to one thing and then an update turns it into something different - even if the changes are meant to (or indeed are) tangible improvements, some people prefer fundamental design elements to remain unchanged, which is a bit restrictive from a development POV. This proposal would allow SCE and FTruck to remain their own thing and functioning as they now do, parallel to a new title including all the new stuff;
Licensing: We are approaching the end of our licenses to both Stock Car and Formula Truck. A renewal for the former is pretty advanced but the latter is unlikely, so we might not be able to sell that title anymore, rendering any further investment in it fruitless. However we could still have the trucks which we might be able to include in Reiza2015.
A new title could also allow us to keep investing further in it, including new licenses for new content;
Marketing: Releasing a new title with new branding. The "Game Stock Car" title is admittedly poor, not a good representation of the game anymore and very restrictive to market outside Brazil; a fresh, more appealing and representative brand, along with a new release campaign would be very useful for us to reach more people and maybe attract more commercial opportunities;
All these would add us a bit here and save a little bit there, providing some very useful extra funding - and the more funding we have, the further and harder we can push on with Reiza2017
HOW WOULD THIS AFFECT BACKERS & YOUR RESPECTIVE PERKS?
For backers, this is all good value: you would get Reiza2015 free (which is likely to be priced higher than Stock Car Extreme currently is) you keep SCE & FTruck2013 as they are, and if we were to develop any further content for Reiza2015 (beyond what we already proposed with the campaign), these would most likely come as paid DLCs - campaign backers at all levels however would get both game and any eventual DLCs free of any charge.
This would also have no impact on perks that include Reiza2017, as that will likewise remain free for all those that were in the contribution bracket that included it. Perks that included the Collectors Kit with the DVDs of SCE / FTruck could choose to get a DVD of Reiza2015 instead.
In fact, as the campaign had already suggested these developments would come to SCE, we would deliver the base of Reiza2015 free of any charge for everyone that already owns Stock Car Extreme - campaign backer or not. Our intention here is not to resell to people content they already own, but rather open up a few opportunities and the freedom required to execute them.
So while we do not believe this idea has any negative effect to what we had proposed in the campaign, it would nevertheless constitute a significant enough change of plans, which is why we feel it´s important to run it through you first and hear your thoughts and potential concerns.
So after you feel you´ve given this some consideration and any pending questions are resolved, please vote in the poll to indicate whether you would like us to pursue this direction, as well as contribute with whatever feedback, questions or suggestions you may have - we´d love to hear it
