Did a bunch of practice at Bathurst with the Corvette until I could finally get around the track without spinning. My best lap was a 2:04.944, but I could run consistent 2:06s and keep it on the track. I finally felt ready for a race last night. The races are 70 minutes long this week in the Proto/GT challenge. The race I was in had 6 LMPs, 4 Corvettes, and 6 Ford GTs.
I didn't qualify, so I started at the back of the Corvettes. It was where I wanted to be anyway. 1 of the Corvettes crashed and dropped out on lap 1. Then I spun on lap 5 and most of the Ford GTs got by. As I was catching the GTs and trying to get by them, I started getting lapped by the faster LMPs. Hit a wall on the mountain on lap 8. Didn't do too much damage, just had to hold the wheel very slightly left to go straight. I stayed out because it was too early to pit for fuel.
When I went in to pit for fuel and tires, I had 2 minutes of optional repairs. I took it all and the car was back to normal. At that time I was running 2nd because another one of the Corvettes crashed out. Late in the race, the other Corvette hit the wall hard. He made it back to the pits, but had heavy damage. I was 2 laps down, but made it up while he was getting repairs. I guess his car had too much damage, because he ended up dropping out of the race.
After that, all I had to do was finish, which I did for the win. That is one brutal track to run that long with the Corvette. I might try it again this weekend with the Ford GT. It will be good practice for our next race.
