I'm constantly trying different things on iRacing. For a while I was obsessed with the IndyCar Oval series. I still run it some, but not as much as before. I like to try out most of the cars and tracks. I have been deliberately keeping my Road iRating low (1000 or less) so I could always be in the bottom split and have a better chance to win races.
Recently I decided to forget about iRating and Safety Rating and just race. My Safety Rating has been going up and down, but my iRating has mostly been going up. So I decided to see if I could get it above 2000. Last week it went over 2000 for the first time. It has been fluctuating back and forth across the 2000 mark since.
As I get in higher splits, it is almost impossible to win races, but the racing is mostly better. And I usually have a higher car #, so if I finish top 10, it feels like a win anyway. Just ran a GT3 Challenge race in the RUF. I was in the top split of 2. I was the #18 car of 25. I started 11th, finished 7th with no incidents. Gained +61 iRating and +0.20 Safety Rating. Great race.
Now I just race for the fun of it. Also had a great race in the Spec Racer Ford last night. Started 1st, finished 1st, but didn't lead all the laps. Had a great battle with the 2nd and 3rd place cars the whole race. Track this week is Watkins Glen and the draft is huge there for these cars. No way to get away from someone unless you get at least a 1.5 second lead. If you haven't run the SRF lately, give it a try, its a really fun car with some close racing.
Other cars I like to race are the Skippy, Star Mazda, Ford GT, Corvette, and the Mustang SR500F. If anyone needs setups or just wants to go run some practice in any car on any track, let me know. I'm not back to work yet, so right now I'm always available. I'm usually signed into TS3 when I'm on iRacing.

Very cool Troy. I wondered why we had not heard much about you winning an IndyCar race lately. With the new interest on the road side, perhaps you will stop practicing so much for our Sunday GBR races so that the rest of us actually have a chance to win a race? Just a thought. On the road side, I do not worry about iRating or SR. I do the Caddy in the Global Challenge purely because I love the car, the tracks and the competition. Whether my iRating is 100 or 10,000 is not a big deal. I also am trying the GT3 Challenge series this season for similar reasons, I love the RUF Track car and the tracks that the series runs on. On the oval side, I also do not worry much about iRating, but it was nice to recently get the oval iRating over 2000. I have been in higher splits lately, due to my iRating being higher, but the racing is not any cleaner. There are as many dumbshits with high iRatings as there are dumbshits with low iRatings. I DO worry about SR on the oval side. My favorite oval racing series is the A fixed, which uses the Cup cars. If my SR goes below 1.0, I will lose my A license and so I won't be able to compete in the A fixed. I hear a lot of guys in the B and C races whining about losing their A license, but they still drive recklessly. I am not that guy.

I keep getting side-tracked with a return to iRacing but I'd intended to do the same as Troy... not care about ratings and just race.
My main issue is that I have to put in some practice time before I jump back in there. The cars handle very different to those in rFactor and I need to re-learn that.

I've been dabbling in it of late like f1 I need to practice before jumping into any races the latest update has my wheel so far off it's almost undriveable I have no idea or feel for the car and keep spinning out mid corner. So far every car I've driven I've had to double the FFb strength. When I get home I'll do some research and try dialling it in. Does anyone have a setup for the rookie street stock car? I might take a shot at some ovals for a bit Cheers

Isn't the rookie street stock a fixed setup series? It was when I ran it.

Dale, to some extent it depends on what car you drive. The RUF Track handles so well that you probably can just jump in a race with it. Also, we all know the iRacing Caddy is better than perfect and so you can run that as well without much practice. The Riley Daytona, on the other hand, is a fricking beast. Too much car for me to handle, even after plenty of practice laps. The V8 Supercar also is an acquired taste. I was able to adjust to it, but the other guys I was racing with were on another planet.

I've committed to running at least 8 weeks in the Skip and maybe 8 in the SM. I am focussing on the Skip and using the SM to get my B license. Since I didn't do the efnet race last Sunday I did four iR races over the weekend. I was taken out in one if the races because I checked up to avoid a spinning car ahead. I was hit by two guys behind me lol. I'm trying not to get worked up about any ratings but I want to at least get the next license. I have no interest in A class races so I'll be happy with a B.
I am having a good time even though I don't have a lot to spare. Just going to squeeze in an hour of practice and run a race.

Glad you guys are able to find races you want to run. You're having more luck than I am. Haha.

The GT3 races are great for just jumping into and having a good time. The baseline setup works fine and is very stable. My suggestion is to start from the pits if you haven't had a lot of practice. Those races have big fields (up to 36 cars per split) and there are always going to be some aggressive drivers in there. I practice a lot before the races and qualify. If I am in the top 10 on the grid, I will usually start on the grid. If I'm way back in the middle or towards the back of the field, I will start from the pits. In my last GT3 race I started on the grid and was able to avoid all the wrecks and finish 4th. But only 8 of 31 cars finished on the lead lap. So even if someone started from the pits, as long as they avoided the wrecks, a top 10 finish is almost guaranteed. The track this week is Bathurst, so you have to be really slow to get lapped. I have a good setup I will share when I get on the other computer. It is fast and very stable. Once you find a good setup for this car, it should work almost anywhere. I'm using a different setup than I used last week at Road Atlanta. Got it from an iRacing friend. It is a little more stable coming out of the corners. Here it is: 14S1 30 min Race setup.sto (1.15 KB) This is for the RUF track version car.
