iRacing released some teasers for COTA today. Like this: then someone noticed this in the right corner... flat spot, dirt and grass effects.

Dumb question, but is a flat spot in a tire caused by skidding and/or other excessive wear?

In other words, they are getting excited about iRacing adding tire features that other sims, for example rFactor 2 and F1 2013, have been doing for years???

Anytime a tire locks up while the vehicle is still in motion, typically either a brake lockup or a spin/skid.

Precisely F1 2010 on the xbox had tire pickup already. It wasn't perfect but if you went off track you would see debris on the tires and things would be much slicker for about half a lap (until the stuff wore off) As you know, rF2 has flat spotting modeled in. You can feel it in the FFB after a lockup.

Its great that iRacing continues to improve the model. I wonder if the RF2 crowd would lose their minds if a league system were introduced to make organizing races that much easier. Oh but wait, other games already have that feature. Let the apathy continue.

I think the few leagues running the game would be quit excited if that was implemented

I just find myself jumping to and fro to whatever sim sucks that little bit less.

I like to crap in iRacing as much as the next guy but if. You have a wacky schedule or can't commit to league like ours it is the only way to get racing done
