Most of the time in iRacing you don't need to stop for fuel and tires while racing. The times you do need to pit are usually for repairing damage when you have a mishap. It is best when getting repairs to not get fuel and tires so that your service will be much faster. The default setting in iRacing is for fuel and tire service to be on at all times. This can cause problems when you get damage because if you forget to turn them off, you will now have a car with extra fuel you don't normally need. There is a setting in the app.ini file which you can change so fuel and tires are always "OFF" and can only be turned on if you need them. The app.ini file is found in the iRacing folder of My Documents. Here is where it is on my PC: Double click on the file and it should open up with notepad. If it doesn't open up with notepad, right click on it and select notepad to open it. Once you have opened the file, scroll down to the "Pit Service" section. Make sure it reads: AutoResetPitBox=0. All you need to do is change the 1 to a 0. Here is what it looks like in the file: Once you have made this change, if you do need tires and fuel, you will have to manually turn them on. You can do this 2 different ways. You can either go to the F4 (Fuel) and F5 (Tires) black screens and select them there or you can use the macros provided by iRacing in the options tab of the options screen. To use these macros, you just need to assign them to a key on your keyboard or to a button on your wheel or button box.

Thanks Troy. This makes perfect sense. As you suggested, I stickied this for ease of reference.
I have been doing this for quite some time guys, and it works well. Just be sure to map keys for fuel and tires. I have the left directional button on my T500 mapped for four tire change and the right directional button mapped for four tires and full fuel. That may not be the best combination for road racing, but it works well for oval racing.

I use a macro for clearing tires and fuel for our instant car fix races. I also have two keys for fuel and for tires.
