Any known tricks/suggestions for getting this installed ? Get to the screen where there is an 'install' button but then nothing happens

Run the installer in compatibility mode? Run the installer as Adminstrator? Google for solutions? Someone has likely faced the exact same issue as you.
Some older games just won't install in modern operating systems.
They can choke on something as simple as querying the system or video RAM and not being able to handle the size of the number. Some of the old copy-protection schemes aren't compatible. DirectX checks sometimes trip up and installer too.
Check the game maker's site for an update. I had to do that for GT Legends for example. They released an updated installer for Windows 7.

Push come to shove, get a hold of Craig (zero/Lawyer). He has it up and running on a Win7 machine...so I know it's possible.

PS, I have played just about every rally game out there, including many different iterations of Colin McRae rally, Dirt 1, 2 & 3, WRC, etc., and this game is the best, hands down, particularly with the RSRBR mod. Also, it does work in triple screens, which is an additional plus, particularly over Xbox versions of any other rally racer.

ok, thanks. I got Richard Burns Rally installed. The problem seems to have been UAC, dumb me I forgot how poorly Microsoft designed their operating ? systems and the hacks they have had to make as a result The auto-run from the CD and the readme.txt both try to get you to run the program setup.now.exe You can run setup.now.exe as Administrator but then it has a button 'Install' which must be just a redirect to setup.exe and of course the Administrator privilege probably does not get passed along. So the solution I found was to directly run setup.exe as Administrator, this directly launches the installer and worked fine. Also, I am now installing these older games on secondary drive D: which seems to (at least on my pc) eliminate the need to run the game as Administrator. A corollary from this would be that under Vista/Win7 your files 'may' be protected better than Win XP but only if you leave them on C: ...

Also, I have GT Legends installed on both my older desktop and my newer gaming PC. I had not been able to get it working on the newer gaming PC because it just kept cycling back into the Configure GT Legends window. But reading this thread made me realize I had been not been trying to launch it as Administrator. I installed GT Legends on D: and assumed it would be fine. However, GT Legends nicely creates a GTL folder under My Documents which contains the config.ini file. My Documents is on C: which of course falls into UAC land...

While I am on this little trip or rant... I now have a number of older titles installed, GT Legends, Race 07, GT Evolution and of course rFactor. Every time I start up these titles I am just amazed that at one time I thought Forza was 'the' car/race sim In hindsight the only thing I can see consoles contributed was making things simple to the point of no work/thinking involved. But in doing so, again my opinion, the consoles downgraded the quality of the games...

Thanks, I had trouble getting a letter from my third grade teacher, but I was able to get all of the info together and submit the request for the digital download code. For my trouble, I received a free Formula One car and Hockenheim track as part of registering with raceroom.net.

Just wanted to bump the thread for this under-appreciated sim racing title. In short, if you have any interest in rally games, you owe it to yourself to try this one, with the RSRBR 2013 mods. With regard to the game, its dirt cheap on amazon. I just checked amazon and you can get it for $5.49. www.amazon.com/Richard-Burns-Rally-PC/dp/B000C97156/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370300827&sr=8-1&keywords=richard+burns+rallyOnce you get the game, you will want to install it and download and install RSRBR 2013 mod files per the instructions in this superb thread at www.racedepartment.com. www.racedepartment.com/forum/threads/rsrbr2013-installation-usage-guidelines.63872/I did this over the weekend and reminded myself what a great game this is. I also think that the 2013 content has gone above and beyond the prior year mods. The game looks great, despite its age. The thread at racedepartment has some good tips on maximizing the performance of the game, including running it well on triple screens. The feel of the game is also superb. The FFB and physics are hands down the best there are for rally games, including the much newer Dirt 3 and WRC 3 games. Here is the link to a good video from ISR about this game. It discusses the game and mods as of 2010, but much of their tips, including the tips for improving the force feedback, are applicable even today. If you have any questions, let me know. I am now pretty familiar with this game and the mods.
