I finally calculated the number and it is not as bad as I thought. The gross cost since late 2011 is $1027.55. Since then, I have gotten $152.95 in credits, for a net cost for iRacing alone of $874.60. You can calculate this by going into your Account and then look at order history. You do have to manually add up the totals, but it only took me a few minutes.
I cannot even begin to estimate what I have spent on sim racing equipment since I got serious in late 2010, particularly since I have bought and sold so much stuff. Whatever the total is, it has been worth it. Sim racing may be my favorite hobby I have ever had, perhaps even eclipsing baseball as a kid.

Don't know, and don't want to know. All I know is too much.

$248 since 12/2012 - I'm cheap Been using it more recently and I am liking it more than I ever did before. I should even get the participation credit for the first time due to the shortened season.

I am comfortable with the expense because I have gotten so much use out of it. I did 9 official races this weekend alone, even though we went to my wife's Aunt's house on Saturday for early Thanksgiving dinner, and yesterday I had football watching and yard work to do and then last night we went to my little girl's volleyball games. Because the races start at particular times, I can get in a "quick race" and then go about my day.

I have spent a total of $1089.26 and received $107.95 in credits since 12/28/2012. But I also still have $106.63 iRacing Dollars in my account and my subscription is good until 12/28/2017.
My net cost for my first 2 years subscription plus buying all content is $824.63. Yes, a rather large initial investment, plus the $6000+ I have spent on my racing rig and PC.
But from here on, the upkeep costs are very minimal. I make sure I keep plenty of iRacing dollars in my account when they have the $100 for $75 deals. So when new content releases, I get it for 47.5% off when you add in the 30% for owning everything. And I already explained how I get the subscription for $3 per year.
Still way cheaper than trying to race for real and I can do it from the comfort of my man cave while drinking a beer or 3.
