I had my first ever win in a V8 Supercar on Tuesday night. It was in the league I joined last year. This is my third season racing with them. It is a great league and I encourage anyone who is interested to check them out and join.
I have become a lot more comfortable driving the V8SC of the last couple of months. The other night was no different. This week the race was at Mosport. I found a good setup on the forums, got plenty of practice, and with a few tweaks was able to qualify 4th. I got a great start and was hanging with the front pack. 1st and 2nd place spun themselves in the first few laps which moved me up to 2nd place.
I was staying with the leader until I ran off the track on lap 6. I didn't hit anything though and got back on the track in 6th place. From then I slowly worked my way back up to 2nd, but I had no chance of catching the leader because he was almost 40 seconds ahead and running good laps. Then on lap 37 of 45, the leader had an equipment problem. His throttle stuck going into T3 and he ran straight into the wall and was out of the race. Not the way I wanted to get the lead, but anything can happen in a race.
I had a small lead on 2nd place of about 5 or 6 seconds and I was running slightly better laps, so I just concentrated on staying on the track for the rest of the race. Ended up winning by 6 1/2 seconds. A great way to start the new season. My first win and I'm also first in the standings for at least a week.
