I got burned by a newish Windows 10 install tonight racing at efnet. I upgraded and forgot to configure Windows Update then forgot about it. Anyway, near the end of my race, rF1 minimized so that Windows could helpfully tell me it was time for some updates. Poop. Sheldon was interested in the fix and suggested it was good to post the procedure here for all to disable this. For Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise: www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8013-windows-update-automatic-updates-enable-disable-windows-10-a.html#option1s7After doing this (and maybe rebooting) you should see something like "Never (not recommeded)" in the advanced properties of Windows Update. Note that this kills auto-updating of Windows Defender. You'll have to get in the habit of manually checking for updates now. Win 10 Home users. There is no way to disable updates. About all I can recommend is to check for updates (install if you wish) the day of any important race to avoid an untimely notification. There may be a workaround for Win 10 Home were you set your internet connection as "Metered" then tell Windows to not download over metered connections. I don't know if that has any other unintended effects though. See Option 4: www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8013-windows-update-automatic-updates-enable-disable-windows-10-a.html#option4I hope that MS sees the light and returns Windows Update functionality to that of Win 7/8/8.1
