Update for 2017 The iRacing.com Indy 500 will be on May 19-21, the weekend before the actual race. Here are the race times: Saturday 1:00 GMT (Friday 9:00 PM edt) Saturday 20:00 GMT (Saturday 4:00 PM edt) Sunday 1:00 GMT (Saturday 9:00 PM edt) Sunday 12:00 GMT (Sunday 8:00 AM edt) Here are my setups. If you have my last years setups, do NOT use them, they are very unstable with the updates made since then. Check the notes for WJ adjustments. No ARB adjustments are required. 2017 Indy 500 Q.sto (3.04 KB) 2017 Indy 500 R.sto (3.21 KB) The qual setup requires no adjustments while driving. You can go flat out for the entire run if you hit the right line. The race setup starts at WJ 0. You shouldn't have to adjust it for at least 10 laps unless you are in dirty air. After 10 laps you should go down on the WJ as necessary as you feel the car start to get loose. If you run the right line and stay ahead of the car with the WJ, you can go flat out for the entire fuel run. If you aren't confident or don't know the line, lift for T1 and T2.

I think I will try yet again even though historically I have had difficulty even turning a lap at Indy with the IndyCar. ?

I think I will try yet again even though historically I have had difficulty even turning a lap at Indy with the IndyCar. ? The setups I posted are fairly close to the edge and get really hard to handle later in the fuel run. Let me know if you would like me to make some more setups that are a little more tame and easier to manage over a fuel run.

I may make one of these races. I have to buy indy first. I'll keep you guys posted. Maybe a hosted group session is in order.

Can't be this week though, I'm having too much fun at Pocono. For private testing use default weather, that is what will be used in the race.

Race this weekend. Practice and Qual servers are up. If you intend to qualify, you must do so by Friday midnight GMT, that's 8:00pm EDT or 5:00pm PDT. The last qualifying session will be Friday 7:30pm EDT, 4:30pm PDT. Here is a link to the official iRacing thread: members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/3482684.page#9803977I tested my qual setup last night in a practice server. The best way to run it is to leave the WJ at 0 as you leave the pits. This will allow you to go flat out from the very start. Once you get out onto the track on the back straight, move the WJ to +10 and leave it there for the entire run. If you run the right line, you never have to lift the throttle at all. My best average for 4 laps is 39.4xx (close to 39.5). I made a slight adjustment on the gearing. I will repost the setup when I get home tonight. I will also post a replay so you can see the proper line for pit exit and running the laps.

Thanks Troy. How do I control the WJ? How often should I reduce it? In what increments?

Thanks Troy. How do I control the WJ? How often should I reduce it? In what increments? The weight jacker adjustment should be easily accessible. I have mine set to the right joystick on my Fanatec BMW GT wheel. If I move the joystick right it increases the WJ by +1, If I move the joystick left, it decreases the WJ by -1. Bind it to whatever control you like, just make sure you can adjust it easily while driving without having to look at your wheel. As far as adjusting it, I go by feel. When I feel the car getting a little bit loose exiting a corner (usually T2), I adjust the WJ down by -1. My range of WJ adjustments is +10 to -5 during a fuel run and the car will go 30 laps on a full tank of fuel so if you adjusted the WJ down by -1 every 2 laps, you would be right in the ballpark. This is all for running in clean air. When running in dirty air (less than 1.0 seconds behind the car in front of you), the WJ can be used to adjust for aero push (getting tight in the corners). You can increase the WJ to compensate for aero push. If it is very early in the fuel run, I will add +3 to +4 on the WJ to compensate for aero push. If it is later in the run, I may only add a click or 2 or maybe won't add any at all because it can make your car uncontrollably loose on corner exit with worn tires. When following another car toward T1 or T3, make sure you lift well before the corner to also help compensate for aero push. If you lift during the corner, it can make your car tight and cause you to hit the wall. It is far better to lift early so you can get on the throttle by mid corner which will help the car turn. Along with WJ adjustments, there are also the ARBs which can be adjusted while driving. I have rotary controls assigned to these on my button box. You can see the current settings for the ARBs on the steering wheel. It is the 2 numbers just to the left of center. The left number is the front ARB and the right number is the rear ARB. Through extensive testing, here is what I have found for the ARBs: With the race setup I posted you start at 34 (Front ARB 3, Rear ARB 4) Adjust based on fuel remaining. At 14 gallons adjust rear ARB to 3. At 10 gallons adjust rear ARB to 2. At 8 gallons adjust front ARB to 2. At 6 gallons adjust rear ARB to 1. Make sure when you pit for fuel, you adjust the WJ and ARBs back to the starting positions. Any other questions, let me know. I hope some of you can have successful races. It is a great accomplishment just to finish one of the races and especially if you are still on the lead lap.

Thanks Troy. I appreciate the clarification. I qualified for the race this morning but the best I could do, even with your awesome qualifying set up, was 40.2. I am still scared to floor it into Turn 1, Turn 3 is less intimidating. I will be running the race on Sunday morning at 5am PST.

Thanks again for the comments Troy. I ran 60 laps this morning and it worked well. I did not hit a single wall. I am very much looking forward to tomorrow morning's race.
