My pc has been shutting off lately for no apparent reason. It doesn't shutdown, just turns off instantly. Every time has been while I'm in an iRacing session, but I only turn it on for iRacing so that makes sense. Yesterday during my league race, it turned off 4 times. I could have had a top 5 easy, but got last place because of it.
I recently installed a new gpu and upgraded to windows 10.
Any ideas?

Might be an issue with the psu. Have you checked the event viewer to see if shows any errors?

Yeah, sounds like a power supply problem. I'd have a look at that first.

New GPU and new Windows? There's a lot that can be happening there. What was the change that caused the problem... or did you change both at once?

Changed both at the same time. Worked great at first, then started shutting off a few weeks ago.

Before the upgrades, were you running PrecisionX or other graphics card tuning app? Try uninstalling then doing a clean reinstall (i.e., wipe out old profiles).

Before the upgrade, I had an AMD 7970. Now I have an AMD 390x. I only run the AMD drivers and software.

Where do I find this event viewer? Right click on This PC and choose manage That will open Computer Management, on the left side click the arrow to the left of Event Viewer You should see Windows Logs Click on the arrow to the left of Windows Logs for more options Start with System and see if you see any Errors around the time the PC shutdown If you find an error you can try to google the source and even id Then look in Application for any errors. I had an issue with my PC where it went into Sleep mode and I could not get it to wake up. I had to Hard boot it to get it to come back up. A temporary fix was to shut down the PC and then unplug it from any power source. Then I would hold the Power button on the tower for about 10 seconds to disperse any electricity in the PC. I would then be able to plug everything back in and power up the PC and it would work for a while. Then it would not wake up from sleep and I would repeat this process. One day I was unable to do this anymore because the PSU had finally died. I am not saying the PSU is what is causing your issue and hopefully with help you can rule out what is causing this issue. I am just basing this on my experience with a bad PSU in the past. Good luck. p.s. aren't PC's fun? (not that I want to use a console to simrace )

Those power off crashes are a pain because sometimes they're so fast that nothing gets written to Event Viewer and you sure don't get a BSOD file to analyze. I'd start with testing the RAM. Regular users I'd start with power supply but I suspect you, Troy are like me and over-spec the power supply. That's why my PCs have a 1000 and 1200W Corsair PS. Memtest86 is the gold standard here. Make a bootable CD or USB and let it run for a few hours. If you see errors then reseat your RAM and test again. www.memtest86.com/

My gut reaction is power supply. If it were me, I would change that out first. Even if it turns out to not be that, it never hurts to have a spare on hand anyway. Are you still under warranty? If not, I generally trust any Corsair PSU. For that GPU, you probably want at least a 600 W PSU.

I got the new PSU and installed it last night. I didn't race, but I spectated a friend of mine and ghost raced. I also did some practice. I had the PC on for about 2 hours and no problems, so I believe it was the PSU.
