I'm seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on iRacing, but I hate running with strangers all the time. So I was wondering if you guys do or still do league or small group events?
I know I'm not up to running the Team events with you guys, but would love to just race a bit if I jump in here.

The leagues we're in are not drop-in friendly and would probably require purchasing (or leasing as Chris calls it) more content than you'd want to at first.
One way to get together is to do the scheduled races at a time where there's less asshats. I found that the Skip Barber races later in the evening are quite well-behaved. The risk is that if there's enough drivers then races may have two splits so there's no guarantee of driving together.
It's easy enough to schedule a GBR night and set up a server (there's a cost but it's cheap) with the content we want. We can have a lot of fun with the base content at first until you decide if you like it.

I've had a subscription over there for a while and haven't used it too much.

Keep an eye out for the new subscription offers they run periodically. You can usually get started w/ 50% off the initial subscription (3 or 6 months). Then like Dale mentioned, spend time in some of the base content cars too see if it's something you want to get into. Some of the base cars are actually pretty fun. I still enjoy hopping in the Miata, Mustang FR500, and Caddy CTS-VR on occasion. And yeah, if there was interest we can totally run some GBR nights (maybe off Wednesdays).

I ran a series of private races last week put on by a podcast I listen to. It was in the base content and we had fun. I’d definitely run with you guys if we did a bi-weekly

I think we'll screw around with base content for a little bit. What you buy is somewhat dependent on the series you decide to run.
Looks like Chris setup an event and threw you in at the deep end!

I'll second what Dale said. Hold off on leasing content until you figure out what you want to drive to work towards your first license. Most of your early lease content will likely be tracks, rather than cars. One thing I did so as not to hurt the bank account too bad was limit myself to 1 car & a couple tracks per season (4 seasons a year). Our weekly races will just be utilizing base content for now, so you don't have to worry about missing out on any of those. And if the Caddy/Lime Rock combo is too much (iRacing does have a bit of a learning curve to adapt to the physics) we will scale the car back abit (2 hour hosted session only costs $1). Fortunately the curve isn't as steep going from rF2 to iR as it is going from rF1 to iR. But I think you'll find the Caddy a bit intoxicating...as I know you like things w/ that make loud angry V8 noises.
