The time has arrived for the first endurance race of the season. For this event we'll be wheeling the Audi R8 GT3. Let me know if you are interested in participating and I'll get you added to the list. I will likely be working Saturday, if so I will be unavailable during the first 12 hours. took that Clubsport V2 wheelbase apart... there are a couple wires in the bundle going to the wheel that have their insulation abraded/broken also a surrounding clear plastic cover/protector that totally broke at the same location and some dirt/metal particles in mix
I will clean the wires and try to put something to insulate them, maybe tiny touch of silicone? they don't appear broke but will try and test them to verify, hopefully don't need to try and solder them back together

Nice, sounds like it should be repairable. Can you get in there with a small bit of electrical tape? Or are the confines too tight?

I'd get some electrical tape, trim the sheathing back a couple inches and wrap the wires individually. Inspect the wires closely first though and make sure there aren't a lot of broken strands. A couple strands aren't a big deal, but if you have a wire that has 25% of the strands broken, I would consider splicing in a little patch, or stripping back and doing a solder connection. Also see if there is something inside the base that's moving is making contact w/ the harness. The harness may have to be re-positioned slightly. Once everything is situated you can use a couple pieces of tape (or small zip ties) to re-bundle that end of the harness.
Also, is the harness fixed? Or does it move inside the wheel (as in with steering motion)?

The bundle wore and broke here where it comes out of the cylinder near the circuit board at the back of the wheel base, at the far end is a 13 pin male din connector that the wheel plugs into. The whole bundle is loose inside here and moves with the steering wheel. The cylinder feels smooth so maybe just strain/age broke the outer clear plastic sheaf and that may have then abraded a couple of the wires in the bundle.

After you repair the wires, get some of the flexible wire split-loom to cover it where it runs through (basically replacing the damaged sheathing) and prevent chaffing. those opened wires were probably grounding out on the chassis intermittently.

Not sure if this would help you, but I have used that "Flex Seal" paint (Brush on, not spray) and coated wires with it that rub under my trucks hood, works really well and seams to last. You could probably use a small foam brush to apply it, or even a Q-Tip. Just a suggestion.
I've also used it to bind and water proof wires on my RC Crawlers. Holds up very good.

I should open my wheel and check that harness. No problems yet but my wheel base has a lot of use.

putting it back together I realized the wire bundle wore because of contact with a sensor, probably the wheel rotation sensor (hall effect?). Looking at this surprised more of these wheel bases don't have problems. I used couple sizes of heat shrink tubing, electrical tape and some liquid tape (as Dan suggested). Hopefully it lasts thru an endurance race

finally after fighting what seemed like an hour of iRacing updates and then iRacing crashing (solved by uninstalling/reinstalling the Fanatec drivers) I was able to do a couple laps of Daytona. Am I ever slow, but at least the wheel appears to be working

Excellent. I think we are on if everyone is game for it. We are 1 driver short of what would be ideal, but aside from a quad-stint over the overnight, it looks like it should be workable.
Let me know ASAP if someone can't make it.
