Got in a couple of Indycar races at Talladega last night. First race had a few cautions, I was running in the top 10 when there was an accident in front of me that I couldn't avoid. My car had damage but was still drivable. I pitted to change tires and get any repairs. No repairs were required. I guess all the damage was aero because the car drove fine, but couldn't get up to speed even in the draft. I was able to stay on the lead lap though and finished 11th of 21.
Second race went much better. I started 2nd and avoided all the wrecks. There were only 2 cautions. I pitted on the first one for fuel because if there are enough green flag laps, you can't finish this race on fuel. Most of the field pitted for fuel on the second caution so I ended up in 3rd on the restart. We ran green for 15-20 laps to the end. That is some tight nerve wracking racing going 245 around Talladega sometimes 3 wide. I was able to stay on the inside line close enough to the leader so nobody could squeeze in. The outside line could gain a little on the back stretch, but the inside line was faster through the turns. I got as close to the leader as possible coming out of the last turn and almost bump drafted him over the line. Got me a 3rd place finish just .025 ahead of 4th who was trying to push the 2nd place car over the line. The race netted me 108 championship points which puts me in second place in my division for now. Also got +81 to my iRating and +.12 SR which is a nice bonus.

Nicely done Jarhead.
I am going to run the Late Model at Michigan tonight after Spazcar. One of the top dogs in that series has shared a tune. I am looking forward to trying something new.

I really like those late models too. Could you share the tune with me please? I will run the race with you after Spazcar also. At that time of night, there aren't too many people running those races, so we should be in the same split.

My final IndyCar race at Talladega today was a woulda coulda shoulda event. I woulda won the race and coulda won the race because there shoulda been more cautions. I started on the pole and led 32 of 40 laps. But on that race, you can't make it to the end on fuel without a minimum of 2 cautions. We only had one early in the race. I was in the lead so I took a gamble and stayed out knowing there would be another caution with a field of 23 drivers. They disappointed me and behaved themselves so we ran green to the end of the race.
I pitted with 3 laps to go to get a splash of fuel and finished in 5th. The 4 drivers in front of me pitted on the caution. I couldn't take the gamble to pit that early and lose all that track position. It was a calculated risk that would pay off at least 90% of the time. The other IndyCar races I was in this week had multiple cautions. One didn't even get to the starting line coming off the pace lap before we had a caution.
Oh well, I did have one good race where I scored some major championship points and I'm still sitting 4th in my division. I am also getting much better with the IndyCar. It is a blast to drive because it goes like a bat outta hell and sticks to the track like glue.
This week is Indianapolis which should be real interesting. I did some practice there and you really have to hold a perfect line to get around the track without lifting, especially on corner 1. I expect a lot of cautions from turn 1 wrecks. I'm gonna really work on my qual times so I can start at or near the front to avoid the carnage.

As you guys may have seen from my separate SR post, I did 15-20 races this week in the Late Models at Michigan, which is a good SR track. I got plenty of top 5 finishes, even though I never drive the Late Model car, and other races I just hung back. It got boring towards the end, but I wanted to set myself up with a 4.0 plus SR, and that is exactly what happened, as I am now sitting at a 4.44 oval SR. I also did one Class C fixed and one Class B fixed race in order to meet the credit requirements. I got wrecked in both races, its Daytona, what do you expect? But, I was able to continue in both races and finish on the lead lap. I was unable to do any Cadillac Cup official races this week due to lack of participation. Very disappointing. I did the NW League hosted truck race at Dover on Saturday night. 90 laps!!! It was fun. I finished 12th out of 15 drivers, which is pretty good considering that my wheel crapped out around lap 70, and then iRacing crashed! I had to reboot the wheel and iRacing. By the time my truck was fixed and I got back in, I had lost a lot of time. Had I not had technical issues, I was looking at a possible top 5!!! Anyway, I really enjoyed it. The NW guys are really cool and I got about 150 laps in at Dover, which is great practice for the coming week of official races. My plan is to continue doing the NW league races on Saturday night. The admin schedules the track that we are doing in the official races the following week of the season, which is great practice.
This week should be fun. The Class C fixed trucks are at Dover, which is an awesome track. The Class B Nationwide cars at at Phoenix. And, tomorrow is the debut for the Gen6 Chevy SS Sprint Cup car, which is at Phoenix this week. Should be good fun all around!!!

I don't want to hijack this thread or GBR members, however if GBR is not doing anything on Saturday nights (I see Zero mention he ran a NW League race Saturday night), our league hosts the new Chevy SS on Saturday nights. It's open sets, Q starting at 9:30 PM EST. Lot's of good people, much like here, always willing to help.
If it's ok with the GBR admins, I'll post a link to our site.
If not, I'll shut up. ;-)

We have links to other leagues and series such as Race2Play and efenet. Just know that no one out there is quite as cool and unique as we are here at GBR!!!! I might take you up on the invite. Our NW League stuff starts at 8:30pm PST and so I probably would have time to do the Chevy SS with you guys and then jump into the NW league stuff. I might be hit or miss though, since the kids are still up at 6:30pm PST on Saturday nights.

Got another win with the IndyCar last night at Indianapolis. This time there was no controversy. I started on the pole and led 29 of 30 laps. The one lap I didn't lead was when the second place driver decided to dive to the inside of me between turns 3 and 4. That is really not a good place to pass, but I didn't want to wreck so I backed off and gave him the the position. But him being on the inside meant he wasn't set up properly for turn 4 and I got the run on him down the front straight and passed him just just before turn 1 and held it to the end. There were a couple of cautions early, then we had a long green flag run until lap 25. Then we went green again for the final lap.

Had two great races last night at Phoenix, first was the Class B Fixed Nationwide car, then I did the Class A Fixed Sprint Cup Gen6 car. In the Class B race, I started 4th and ended up finishing 7th. Overall, it was a clean race, although late in the race, an inside car came up into me and gave me a 4x. It did not affect my car in a material way and so I ended up finishing strong. The Class A race was a total wreckfest. We had at least six cautions, and these are supposedly the best racers (next to Pro, of course). Ironically, early in the race, I mentioned that I was going to participate in the NASCAR iRacing series. One guy chimed in and said that it was ridiculous that iRacing was going to allow D, C and B license levels to compete in that series, since those guys cannot handle the Sprint Cup car. After we had several cautions, I pointed out that maybe this was a good thing, since us A license levels cannot seem to keep it together. Anyway, as to the race, I started at the back of the pack in 23rd (forgot to qualify). I was poised to get a top 10 finish, but then the last wreck of the night caught up with me and I ended up finishing 18th. Several cars wrecked in front of me and the guy behind me rear ended me as I was braking. The car was toast and so were my changes of getting a top 10.
Notwithstanding the wrecks, I am really enjoying Phoenix with the A and B cars. Its taken some practice, but I now feel very comfortable on that track and I am getting some decent lap times.
