GBR doesn't have it's own series since a bunch of guys race these over at efnet. I would love to run some casual races and will test the capabilities of my old PC and ISP to see if I could host. Let me know which cars you're liking. Zed, Snappy and I were talking about getting this mod on a server last night. If I understand the server set up correctly, we would be able to run any car in the mod, but the host would need to designate the track. What we ideally would want is a server that we can use for some casual pick up racing, using the many awesome classic cars in the mod. I had been thinking of doing a server, but if you have the inclination, knock it out.

I was going to start playing with setting up the server but I don't know if I would leave it wide open and on all of the time. I'd rather work with someone on a group of cars and run them for a casual series. Ideally with somewhat balanced cars and cars that efnet usually doesn't use so we can entice GBR'ers that run over there to also run with us.
If you and Snappy have thoughts on this I am all ears. I'll start playing with the server tonight a bit but I may try to make the DRM.

Is there a web interface available for running an rFactor server such that GBR could have a login as a group? That would be ideal I think. Then if a group of people just feel like using it, they jump on, someone logs in and handles the config and off they go...

I would drive any of these cars. Ill look through the vehicle selections in the mod tonight and come up with something... I'm leaning towards '60's GT to start. Or maybe multi class? GT and TC on track together?

I love most of the V8 powered cars like the Camaro, etc. Shelby Cobras are good too once you get used to sliding them around a bit

Then if a group of people just feel like using it, they jump on, someone logs in and handles the config and off they go... There are ways currently to change the configuration via an Administrator account who can advance/repeat sessions (normal users can do that through the voting function) and enter the server commands via chatbox. Commands are listed here: www.simracing.sk/download/rfactor/rf.pdf One could load a mod with many tracks and let the users skip through them as they wish. Changing Mods though requires restarting the dedicated server instance which requires access to the Windows server such as RDP or maybe a telnet connection. What I did with Jeff is to give him a user account on my Windows server so he can run the MX-5 series sandboxed in a Windows user account. For obvious reasons, a server owner wouldn't want to do that for wider group of users. There are Web UIs available to run rFactor hosting as you ask but I hadn't found one that I liked. If cost isn't a factor, one can always give these guys $30-40/mo and almost everything you need is there: www.nrtservers.com/site2010/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=4&Itemid=3

If we want to go with a hosted server, my boss's brother owns a gaming server hosting company apparently... I bet I could get us a killer deal on it Should I ask? We have to be serious about it though...

I think we're good for now but PM Hawks and I so we're aware. I'd be interested in hearing who the company is (and I'd keep it to myself). I'm also testing out options... my rF2 exhibition events are being hosted from a dedicated server in a major Quebec datacentre. No 3rd party companies involved, no virtual machines... it's my server in a rack.

It would be nice to have a server with the entire Historix mod and recommended tracks. Being able to switch cars and tracks would be ideal.

I can chuck it on one of my servers and leave up 24/7, no problemo as long as you guys don't mind having to sequentially skip through tracks (there's no direct method to remotely load a specific track from the list).
I can pick 4 or 5 good tracks from the list that efnet uses.

I started a server earlier but have not tested it. Will do so in a few. I'd prefer planned events but if you guys want a open ended setup then just go with F1's. I never liked just jumping in without knowing and practicing the car/track combo.

Oh sweet, I remember seeing that post now earlier today. I won't bother then for now as yours might scratch that HistorX itch for these guys.

I think we want to keep it open ended for now, until Snappy gets his bearings.
