First of all, I want to thank everyone for coming out tonight. We again surpassed our previous record and had 28 cars on the grid! That is awesome guys! Second, I apologize for the technical issues the 2nd race, which caused us to have to forfeit it. It wasn't a server issue as Dale's server had the same problems. The only thing I could think of is it may have been an issue with the track. I'm not convinced of this though as the first race went smooth as glass. Hopefully with all the masses of brain power at GBR, we can figure out what caused it. Anyway, I had a blast in the first race. Some great battles with Chris, Smokey and Pat. Also had some intense moments getting through lapped traffic, but I knew it would be tough with 28 cars bunched onto a tiny circuit. Thanks again to everyone who came out tonight. Here are the results. Obviously only the one race. That was some great stuff there. I started 9th and ended 9th, good enough for me. Going wide cost me two spots though so kinda mad at myself for that one. Great stuff, can't wait for the video!!!

Kudos to Hawks and F1 for working the problems. I greatly appreciate the effort they put in to make these races go. If we decide we need to upgrade to a server solution that will require some $$$ outlay, count me in. Whatever you guys need, we will support you.
Tony, I hear you about the mood in the room, but it is deflating to sit and wait for technical problems to be sorted out. Its no one's fault, this shit breaks.
Anyway, we will have a better run next time.

Technical issues aside, there was great door to door racing from my perspective. Certainly had to be on your toes tonight for sure.
Thanks for the hosting and to everyone that came out! Welcome to the new drivers.
Cheers!

What a mess. We talked and talked about taking it easy at the start and then everyone goes flying off at the start and causes a big wreck in turn 2. Then another big wreck into the hairpin. Once it got spread out, the racing was ok, but there needs to be a little more restraint at the start. My car was damaged from the start and just kept getting worse from there.
After my incident free first race this one was a disaster. I was spun out from getting rear ended in the hairpin at least twice and hit a few other times. I have limited my rFactor racing to just this series because the racing is fun and usually clean for the most part. Last night was neither. It was not a clean race and I did not have fun.

Congrats to the podium finishers at this very tough track.
In qualy I could not lay down a lap even close to what I had been doing and wound up 12th on the grid. I managed to avoid any issues in the first few corners after the start and just settled into pounding out laps. Got into a nose to tail battle with Marvin until we came upon a car that had gone off, turns out it was my team mate Sweeney. He now inserted himself between me and Marvin and took on the battle, hey that was my fight. Marvin went off so Sweeney and and I moved up then on the last lap Sweeney tried to dive under a car in the hairpin which messed him up enough that I was able to capitalize on the error.
Race 2: Thanks Hawks and everyone for waiting till I could join the server. After all the issues to finally get race 2 going I'm glad that it ended up not being official. I had a coming together with a car that I was next too exiting the chicane on the start which caused me to flip, roll and slide down the straight. After waiting for the rest of the field to stream by I was dead last with a heavly damaged car and not a happy camper.
Thank you Hawks for all your effort to run these races and everyones patience to try and work through the technical problems. Last nights problems may really just be that track,it looked like what GPL conversion look like and not up to current standards.

I had a blast and had zero incidents. Got a couple of bumps and that's it, but I was expecting worse. Thanks again for hosting such a great series. It's a shame that some got caught up in wrecks. Shit happens...daily

I enjoyed my first race back after a long absence and didn't feel anything out of hand emotions wise, I thought everyone was in good spirits. The issues I had were just with sheer numbers like hawks mentioned, after getting lapped it's hard to have a semblance of a race with anyone for position as so many guys were lapping and racing, I thought sheldon and I swapped spots a few times just to let folks go by, no big deal but it was hectic. As for the contact and incidents, I feel it too, it's a piss off to get taken out and I was part of the problem for sure in that turn 2 incident as I got into the back (side?) of Jimmy Regan. I thought I took off reasonably and cautiously but people see that as a position to grab and start flying by so now we had even more people trying to fit through the same small hole, when I came into the corner the traffic we were catching was almost at at stand still and pop I hit Jim. I slowed and gave up a ton of spots and made sure Jim passed me too and just carried on. Everyone is faced with the same problem, if you don't actively get on the gas and charge in to the first corners you'll get passed like crazy, maybe you get through fine, maybe you don't, unfortunately as I said I was part of the problem despite trying not to be. Still, it's just for fun, yeah placing well is fun too but I've been spun by others and I've done my share of spinning others too, water off a ducks back, calm deep breaths, there will be good luck days and back luck days.
We'll keep it fun in here with our good group we've got, I'm sure of it.

Excellent point Brent. Mistakes will happen and at times, tempers will flare. Nobody here is hitting someone on purpose and when you have fields as large as we do, accidents will happen. This is no different than in real racing.
By griping at someone and saying, "WTF MAN your an idiot", what exactly does that accomplish? Doesn't that driver already feel like crap for hitting you in the first place? If you hit someone, a simple, "I'm really sorry man, I screwed up", then give the position back as a courtesy if you wish. There is no rule to this, but just good sportsmanship in my opinion.
With that being said, I do believe guys do need to take it easier at the beginning. Believe me, you WILL NOT win a race in the first few corners, but you sure as heck can lose it. If you can keep your nose clean, then you will place higher due to the normal attrition that happens during the course of the race. Dive bombing or not being aware that cars will be braking early will only put you and the other cars around you at huge risk, and who wants that? I sure don't.
Another issue is lapped traffic. I don't expect a driver I'm lapping to just let me by as soon as I'm on his bumper. I understand they are also racing someone else most of the time. However, if you are clearly faster than them, I don't expect that lapped driver to be racing you like it's for position. Again, this is debatable, but for the most part I've not had any major issues with guys I'm lapping.
I had a great back and forth battle with Pat. I thought we both raced each other hard, but clean. He took advantage of a situation where a couple guys got tangled up in the hairpin and I had nowhere to go. Later on, he got loose and I passed him again. On the last lap, he was closing in and pulling the draft on the front straight. He stuck his nose in there and I held my line on the outside. This was for position, so I braked as late as possible, which forced him into a mistake and he locked them up. This was my only shot, so I stayed wide and when he slid by, I tucked back under and took back the position. I had no issue with Pat making this move as it was the last lap and this was his final chance. Had I just continued with the normal race line, I would have been taken out as well.
One last thing before I step off the stage here. We put this together for FUN. My real job is stressful enough and sim racing is my hobby as I enjoy it and find it relaxing. I love the competition and will race someone hard, but take pride in always trying to race cleanly. I'm ok with some contact, especially in these cars. Just don't drive someone off the road or spin them out when you are doing it. These aren't open wheelers where a slight touch will end your day. As Brent pointed out, take a deep breathe and let's enjoy it.

There is one other point I would like to add. I have been run off the road as much as any other guy, whether it be in this series, or in any other series. I also have mistakenly taken other guys out (Helios can attest to that ). Believe me, its frustrating on both ends, but there is no reason to overreact to it with name calling, etc. Getting taken out is part of racing, whether it be real life or simulated. Whether you run 400 or 4 practice laps, you better be prepared for the possibility of your race ending on the first lap. The only time I have flared up and said something is when I have witnessed intentional, reckless driving, such as someone going three wide on a start that results in a pile up. That is a far cry from someone accidentally hitting someone else.

I am not sure if Brent got into the side or back of me or not, but starting as far back as we did, we couldn't even see the lights to go. I am not 100% sure who was in front of me but I think it was jarhead aka Troy and by the time he got going I was almost in his back seat. I had to swerve to the left onto the grass so i didn't hit him. No fault on Troy because as I said, we had no idea the lights had gone out being so far back. I was just happy to get some big laughs with my Fantomas impression, or maybe he is me?
