That was an OK race for me. Based on practice server times I was shooting for a top-5 but wasn't really holding out much hope. This track has never been good to me and I rarely can get a lap where I hit all the apexes... that turn before the back straight is especially poor for me. I'd basically convinced myself that this was going to be a points gathering night and no more. Tires worked out OK. Inters for Race 1 and Soft/Soft for race 2. Race 1: I spent most of the race harassing Hawks and leapfrogged him when he made a slight error. Unfortunately when I made the pass I wanted to make it stick so I put down a quick lap and the FL tire went to about 125 C. It took a few laps to cool down again and I managed to hold Hawks off. Race 2: I got much better tire wear than I did in testing. Though I did get stuck in traffic and was a little slower than my ideal lap times. I pitted with about 50% left on the FL so tire wear wasn't a factor for me. That shows in my lap times though... I treated this as an enduro because I thought the tires would fall off faster. Similar to Race 1 I was with Hawks for a while then got by. I almost threw it away when I was lapping a car that I think was waiting for another driver as a result of an incident. The bad thing was we both got to the T1 entry at the same time yet he was going much slower. I went wide but had too much speed sending me into the sand. I managed to keep momentum and came back on track just far enough of Hawks to maintain my lead. I had a glimpse of a 2nd place when John got up on two wheels at the last corner... I thought he was going over but it didn't happen and I couldn't capitalize. 4th and 3rd at a track I don't do well at and on a night that I hadn't planned on having a good performance... I'll take it.

Had a blast last night. Got a decent qualy time and started 4th. Felt good to be in the mix and even lead a few laps in race 2. Ended up getting 2 top 5's (5th and 4th). Race 1 I pulled a Boza and decided to run with inters at the last minute. My hope was those on softs that pitted might get held up in traffic. Didn't work out great, but still happy with a 5th. Race 2 I started with softs and I ran about 14 laps. I kept them on 1 lap too long and lost a couple seconds because of it. When I did pit, I put on softs again but put an inter on the left front. Worked pretty well. Held the lead for a couple laps about 2/3's into the race, but those with fresh softs were putting major pressure on me. Did everything I could to hold off Jeff and managed to do so for a few laps. Tires really fell off with about 5-6 to go. Jeff was all over my arse (I think there is a permanent Seahawks imprint on his front bumper now) and he got by me. Didn't mean to run you wide at T4 as the tires were spent. Dale also got around me with a couple to go and it was all I could do to hold off Kevin to finish 4th. Great racing, excellent competition and sportsmanship. Throw a little good humored banter in there and that is the recipe we have here at GBR. Thanks to everyone that came out and I hope you all had a good time.

I had a glimpse of a 2nd place when John got up on two wheels at the last corner... I thought he was going over but it didn't happen and I couldn't capitalize. Oh, yeah, how 'bout that eh? I guess he didn't know I was coming and at the VERY last second he gave me the inside line and I just dove, but it forced me up onto the curb way more than I wanted to. And I think you're right, him tapping me put me BACK on two wheels. Crazy shit. It sucks that cars with THIS low a centre of gravity (in theory) can still have this happen over curbing.

And btw, gorgeous, gorgeous track. Can't say enough good things about it. Wanneroo is our traditional season opener at ESR, and this will be used for sure next time.

It sucks that cars with THIS low a centre of gravity (in theory) can still have this happen over curbing. We've seen it before in very rare cases. Ian is known for rolling more than once at Yas Marina, though. I think it's a combination of low ride heights and high curbs and a small flaw in the car modelling that triggers it.

Congrats to our podium finishers. Had a great time as always even if I screwed up royally. Didn't make qually pace like I did at Puke but seemed like I was moving up well enough to hold 4th chasing John down. But as usual I'm struggling with tire management. I planned on pitting and now realize you can be competitive on inters after its all said and done. so who knows now.... anyway, could of kicked myself real good. I normally run into the pits at least once during a week's worth of practice but noooo... I pitted just I like normally do in Historix.... wrong side dumbass so I did a drive through for nothing. fell to 15 or 17th... and back up to 7th at the finish. Oh well I do this just for fun.... LOL Had some great racing amongst a few and a big thank you to Dawson at the start of race 1. Whether sick or not - you did one hell of job driving side by side. I don't believe we touched at all. BTW - thanks Tony and Jason for your videos. Real professional and timing for the super jump vid made me feel better about my race mistake.... Ah also - do u think we could have some brake markers at circuit of americas, jeez, cool to watch but not so cool to race on good luck fellas

That's why I haven't started up the practice server yet. Stay tuned. Cool that would be great, because to put it bluntly this track sucks to try and drive. Nice to have the correct shorter version and brake markers.

thanks sweeny it was fun but I had other major issues that whole race as for someone who has a titan for a GPU I had massive stuttering that whole race from take off to finish (only time it subsided somewhat was the straights all short 2 of them...) I tell you it made me feel sicker reason why I couldn't finish second race I was well past sickness by then

Glad to hear that as well, we were hoping to have it on our upcoming Grand-Am Rolex schedule, but had been hearing bad things...

This series is so much fun. Looking at the standing it seems I have some work to do to accomplish my first season goal. I thought for sure I was going to drop lower in the standings. Glad to see I still have some hope for my goal albeit slim. I'm also glad this race is on Wednesday so I won't have to miss any NFL action later in the season Congrats to all you "usual suspects" up front Don't know how you guys do it but you do it. EDIT: Is the series locked to cockpit view or am I the only dummy running it? Well from some vids I know others are too. Maybe I need to get out of the cockpit, but I love the immersion more than just trying to win.

Most of the guys use cockpit view. i tried it for about a year didn't like it! i have $1,000 rig with the dash board, what do i care about seeing a cockpit on TV lol!!!!! so drive with what view make you happy. in 4 out 5 V8 series i run in the views are open.and if its open i run the hood view and lower the camera down to where it should be.but that's just me. do what you wanna do.
