I am in the cockpit view as well for the enjoyment factor. It's not locked that way so you should be able view it however you like.
Cheers!

I hate cockpit view on single monitor. On triples with 35 degree VFoV it feels nearly perfect. The only car I use the hood cam for is the MX-5 because the visibility out of that car is terrible.

I run hood view. I'd really rather not, but even with a 40" Sona Bravia, I'm still not comfortable with the lack of peripheral vision. I do run open wheel mods in cockpit view though. If I'm ever rich and famous enough to go the 3-screen route, I'll stick with cockpit.

I'll probably need to stay in cockpit, making a change like that is probably gonna slow me down more than anything else.

Talked the dude in Best Buy down a few dollars. Despite what they say Best Buy does have some flexibility in their prices.

EDIT: Is the series locked to cockpit view or am I the only dummy running it? Well from some vids I know others are too. Maybe I need to get out of the cockpit, but I love the immersion more than just trying to win. I run cockpit view only on all sims, including rFactor. Nonetheless, GBR doesn't require it.

I guarantee you will notice a huge difference between the clarity and sharpness of the monitors, compared to that HDTV, not to mention the huge benefit of being able to see more on the left and right sides of the drivers seat of the car. I spent about $600 last year on my triple screen set up, but you can definitely do it cheaper. My first monitor, a 24 inch Dell Ultrasharp WFP 2408, was bought new in 2008 for $700. I added the two other identical monitors, used, last year for about $200-$250 each. I also had bought an HDTV to use as a third screen that ended up going to the garage to collect dust.

One caveat here with triples is that you have to already have a graphics card that is triple screen capable.
If not, that will drive up the price of the project by basically the price of another monitor.
It's usually only an issue if you built a bare bones type system just so you can play rF1.

Yeah that's true. You'll need a card that can do triple screen support. I made a mistake earlier, I don't have Samsung monitors but Dell. I have Samsung monitors but not for racing. Got confused there. lol Here's the model I have: Dell S2340MDon't know why it's priced so high now but I'm confident it can be found cheaper.

I run cockpit view no matter what. It just seems right for a Sim.

My "big screen" back in the days racing. Notice the fantastic all wood grab pillow off sofa and bed racing rig.

Not to go too far off topic here, but my first "rig" was a Table Mate TV tray (as seen on TV). I never took any photos of it for obvious reasons. Here's what it looked like - hot chick not included. I bought it off Craiglist from some elderly lady in a retirement home for $10. There was still some left over scrambled egg on it when I bought it....BONUS!
