I'm glad the info was useful and hope it helps you get your triple screen setup running sooner!
Cheers!

hmmm... learning from this thread. I used three identical monitors, sounds like I may have avoided some complications in doing so. I have used multiple monitors for years but they have always been additional displays, never stitched together into one huge screen resolution till now. In the past mixing monitors was never a problem, I had not fully contemplated the possible issues with AMD Eyefinity and Nvidia Surround till now

Operation Triple Screen continues. I re-installed one of the 24 inch Insignia HDTVs, and returned the other one to Best Buy. I am back to the Sony 32 inch HDTV in the middle, the Insignia 24 inch HDTV on the left and the Dell Ultrasharp 24 inch monitor on the right. I looked at getting Eyefinity up and running on my desktop PC, which has an Asus AMD 6870 GPU, but I lack a Displayport adapter or cable and that is required for Eyefinity. Best Buy and Radio Shack did not have an adapter or cable (ridiculous) and so I instead order a cable from monoprice.com. Should be here by Saturday.

Make sure get an active cable rather than a passive Cheers! Dark, good point. This is the cable I bought: www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024601&p_id=5988&seq=1&format=4#feedbackOne guy says in the comments section that it worked fine for his Eyefinity set up, but another section, which includes comments from monoprice, says that all their cables are passive, not active, and thus they cannot be used for Eyefinity. I checked AMD's site and they do note that an "active" adapter is required for three or more of what they call "legacy" monitors (those with no Displayport input), but they also say, as an alternative to an active adapter, that "monitors with direct Displayport technology must be used." I do not know what that means. There is a comprehensive FAQ in the iRacing forums, and it says that at least one monitor with a Displayport input will do the trick. I have that on my Dell Ultrasharp monitor.

Make sure get an active cable rather than a passive Cheers! I bought an active adapter from amazon, just in case. Its AMD certified. Total cost for Operation Triple Screen, with cables and adapters, now sits at $150. Still not bad...

The sales guys at Best Buy and Radio Shack did not even know what a Displayport cable or adapter was. Hmm....

Operation Triple Screen is nearing a successful conclusion. I got the Displayport adapter today and hooked up my three displays to my desktop PC, which has the Asus AMD 6870 GPU. I am getting a crystal clear 5760 X 1080 resolution in Eyefinity. I am downloading iRacing as we speak, and look forward to seeing how it looks and performs.

Well, the good news is that Eyefinity is a piece of cake to use, assuming you have the right GPU (I do, an Asus AMD 6870) and Displayport adapter (I have that as well) but when I fired up iRacing at 5760 X 1080 with all of the eye candy turned on, I only got 20 FPS, which of course is not playable. In order to play at 5760 X 1080, I had to turn down most of the eye candy to "low", which kind of defeats the purpose, and even then, I am only getting 30-40 FPS. I prefer at least 60 FPS, I know, I know, unreasonable for some games. ;D ;D ;D iRacing looks much better on my gaming PC, where I have a resolution of 3840 X 1024, but all eye candy is maxed and I get 90-150 FPS. So, I still intend to test rFactor and Richard Burns Rally with the Eyefinity set up and see if I like it better in 5760 X 1080 enough to permanently move rFactor and Richard Burns Rally to my desktop PC. But, I think iRacing will remain on my gaming PC. 3840 X 1024 is still 720p HD, and it really matters to have the eye candy and the FPS. iRacing eye candy is different than Forza eye candy, in that it actually helps you go faster since you can see more cues, such as tire marks and brake markers. Rather than buy new monitors or TVs, the next purchase as part of the long term Operation Triple Screen process might be a higher end AMD card that will allow me to get better performance with Eyefinity. We will see. This is loads of fun. I did not know just how much I was missing!!!

It's an expensive hobby but just tell the wife it's not like you're out on a boat or golf course all day. She knows exactly where you are
