Anyone planning on running this event?
Daytona Prototype Mclaren Cadillac
Watkins Glen, Classic Boot and they said they are doing it on or around the 24th of August.

Sounds like fun, I will probably do it. I will drive either the DP or McLaren. Which car do you prefer? Wait, I already know the answer, the Corvette. I will start looking for setups when I get back from my vacation in early August.

I plan to run it. Take a wild guess as to which car I will run? Sent from my HTC One X using proboards

If they had the Vette I would be all over that like a fat kid on a smartie.
As it is, I plan on running the Mclaren as it is really growing on me.

I may try to run this one if it works for my schedule. I was hoping they would choose the Vette for one of the cars, but I like the McLaren. I did purchase the Riley, but haven't tried it yet. Maybe Craig or Troy can hook up up with a decent Caddy tune. After seeing it in person a few months ago, I have developed a new respect for it.

I'm not sure if I'll do it. I got crashed out on Lap 2 or 3 of this event (same track too) last year.
It felt like I did a lot of prep just to get mixed in with people that either didn't take it seriously or were new to multi-class racing but were hoping to wear a hat. Perhaps I just needed to qualify better but the whole thing had a public lobby vibe to me.

I even got a certificate. It was a lot of fun. The second place guy was faster than me, but he got caught up in some trouble and had to pit for repairs. He could not catch me before the race ended.

I should say the racing was great after the first 30 minutes... by then most of the problem drivers had quit.

I should say the racing was great after the first 30 minutes... by then most of the problem drivers had quit. Since I have been doing the NASCAR iRacing series, I have largely gotten used to trouble during the first 25% of the race, until the crappy drivers get filtered out. Sometimes they survive, but usually they wreck out, or otherwise quit. It is just an unfortunate byproduct of racing with folks you don't know as well. But, I still enjoy it. I have done 17 races in the NASCAR iRacing series, which of course means long races with the Cup cars, and I have yet to be wrecked out (knock on wood), even though we have done a lot of tough tracks, including Martinsville, Bristol, Dover, Darlington and Daytona. In 17 races, I have only 41 incident points, and am sitting at 9th in my division. So, although iRacing is filled with it's share of dipshits, overall, iRacers are a pretty clean group.

Cheers! I am signed up and have begun practicing. The race is at 3pm, which is two hours after kickoff of the Duck game. By the time the race starts, the Ducks should be up by 80 and so I will have no trouble getting away from the game for the race.

I ran this today and WON MY SPLIT, using the Cadillac (of course)!!! I also managed to finish with 0 incidents, which means I am eligible to receive an ISR prize. NO OTHER guy in my race finished with 0 incidents!!! I started horribly. When I went into the pace lap, my FFB on my CSW went out. I had to pull over and exit out, reset my wheel and then go back into iRacing. That gave the entire field a two minute heads up on me. I decided to stay with it anyway, figuring at least I could still try to qualify for a prize and get some SR. As the race wore on, I realized I could do a one stop pit strategy. I had a tune for Watkins Glen (think I got it from Helios - thank you brother!!!), and I made sure to maximize the fuel. The one stop strategy worked. As time went on, more and more Caddys had trouble, and I saw myself getting better and better position. My main competition, Manuel Sanchez, ran a great race. He and I were neck and neck for much of the second half of the race, but he had to pit, which gave me a 30-40 second cushion on him. He almost caught me at the end, but I held him off with a 2-3 second advantage. What a rush. This was one of my best races ever, particularly considering the start. It is the second year in a row that I have won my split in this race using the Cadillac.

BooFREAKINGyah!!!! Finished 7th overall and 2nd in class for our Div 1 split. There was a "Days of Thunder" style wreck through the high speed esses going onto the back straight where I was dodging and weaving and picked up 2 0x4 for zipping between wall and car, car and car, and a 1x1 for going onto the grass to avoid the last wrecked car. 120 Minutes of Thunder Results by KRG-Can, on Flickr
