Nice job Kelly. It looks like you can FAST TRACK to your B road license if you complete the MPR requirements. See, isn't iRacing official racing fun???

Apparently I met the MPR cause I read your post, and went to iRacing so see what I needed and had a big "Congrats on your B Class..." banner to greet me.
The race was a ton of fun. I confess to still having that "public lobby" style mentality when it comes to iRacing so I tend to try and avoid peeps but I think I've only had one official race that blew chunks. Every other race has been a blast.
Cheers!

Congrats guys - looks like you both ran excellent races. 2 hours at The Glen in Iracing is quite a feat. Maybe you'll get a 3rd TH8RS from ISR Craig! Impressive driving guys.

Complete noob question: How do I see who is in my split...I know there's a little box that says split after the race but every time I click on it I get one group of random numbers ? And what is a split? Is it based on your license class ?

And what is a split? Is it based on your license class ? They decide splits using iRating. If you have 60 guys who sign up for an official race, there usually will be 2 or 3 splits, in other words, separate races. The losers like me are in the lower "split", the fast guys like you and Kelly are in the middle split and the iRacing aliens like Troy would be in the highest split.

Is it good to have a high irating or low ? Cause if it was based on high you have a higher rating than me and almost 600 more than Troy, so I assume lower is better?

Splits are usually done by qualifying time if I am not mistaken. I *believe* the iRating is used overall to calculate the "strength of field" to help determine how many iRating points you are awarded. Weak field compared to your iRating means less points and a stronger field means more points. Your finishing position all dictates this. You basically need a degree in advances calculus in order to be able to determine the formulas iRacing uses to award everything. Cheers!

i thought it had to do with qualifying times, and i kind figured out that if you had a high irating and finished badly in a low field you would get docked harder. Thanks guys!

I think they use iRating to sort the folks w/o a qualy time. Doesn't it also determine your car number in the race? The race I did last night I was car #13 but I qualified 6th. I had a faster time than one guy and everyone else didn't set a time.

My assumption was that they bin you by iR then set the order for each split by quali time and iR. Anyone ever seen a really fast guy with low iR in the top split? I haven't.

Within the splits, the grid is determined by qualifying times. You usually want to qualify, unless you are slow like me and might get stuck in a one split race with aliens. In that situation, I sometimes don't qualify because I don't want to get wrecked by the fast guys as they fly by me.

The conventional wisdom is that a higher iRating is better, since you get higher splits and therefore better racers. I don't see much of a difference in quality of racers between high and low splits with regard to wrecking. Fast guys wreck just as much as slow guys.
