@ Tom,
I've done two Ferrari skins and both .dds files weigh in at 5.33Mb, so that is pretty consistent. I think it's the way they made the Templates, they are all pretty hefty and have lots of crap that's not needed.
So far it has not caused an issue.

As a matter of fact, I just went back and checked all the paints I've done for this series, and they are all 5.33Mb.
Did some more checking and everything I've/we here at GBR have painted is 5.33Mb, V8's, VHR all of it. I wonder if there is a better setting to save with?

Something is funky with the BES21 skin. Every other skin for that car is 5,422 KB but only that one is 2,731 KB. If you look at the BES21 body DDS it doesn't even look like the others (big blocks of colour rather than a car profile).

Somehow Blancpain is cutting the file size in half, seemingly for all DDS files.GIMP has maybe or 7 or 8 different compression formats. As I mentioned, I tried two of them but the file size didn't change. I was about to run through them all but Googled instead. Reads like we need DXT (1, 3 or 5) and DXT1 would make for a smaller file size. The default Blancpain body DDS files look like they don't have an alpha layer so I tried compressing my main DDS as DXT1. That cut the file size in half so I went upstairs to load it onto my game PC to see what happens. Looks exactly the same but with DXT1 I wouldn't be able to get rid of the somewhat overly glossy sheen that they both have and is now bugging me a little. My wing file could evidently be halved in the same way. I only see one 458 with the small skin.  Randomly clicking around, I've found some more small file size skins for the R8, Lambo, AMG. I can only guess that they saved some differently, maybe those are from a different point in the development of the mod or they have different artists saving files differently. Interestingly, in my screenshot above the 2013 files are larger and the small one was created in 2012. |

Sorry, I actually have "Blancpain_Series_2012_V1.0+Patch_1.02+SP1 (FULL)". My new EnduRacers is SP2... I'll try to get on the server which will surely answer whether I have the correct version.

I'm not going to worry about it unless it causes issues. Besides, I did the DXT1 thing with my own skin to see it. And I don't like it.

I'm confused now myself.
I just downloaded the RAR from the thread here and I now see what you do. All 458 skins are 2,731 KB and they were created in 2012.
However, the version of BlancPain I've been using these past months has a mix of those and also skins created in 2013 that are double the size.
I'm going to stop trying to troubleshoot this, Tom and let the guys hosting this series jump in because I don't want to give incorrect information.

Tom, I think you have the right version and I have something different. I just downloaded the RAR from the thread here and I now see what you do. All 458 skins are 2,731 KB. I must have residual skins from when we tested a different version of the mod. Sorry for the confusion. NP, I'm used to it. If you get this, would you please PM me with the password for the server? |
