or LCPD:FR for short. This is a mod for the PC version of GTA IV that allows you to take on the role of a LEO within Liberty City. My kids bought and downloaded GTA IV for me and turned me onto the mod (free but I have since donated to the author). Now my first thought was that it was an awfully nice gesture but why in the world would I want to come home and go on duty virtually after a RL shift? I humored them and got everything installed and working and damn if this isn't just a wickedly fun mod for the game. I'm addicted to the silly thing. I've installed more mods that customize the cars, installs an ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition) and some other goodies. Here is a video for example and be warned, some (ok most) of the folks that play this mod are wannabe's that do a full role play when they play the mod. This vid is from a high school kid and on the old version of the mod (they just released Version 1.0).

At least you have a job that lends itself to simulation. If it were me you'd need a keyboard controller and be writing reports for politicians and balancing budgets for achievements.

Its great. Keep in mind that 1.0 JUST got released so there are some crashing bugs going on that they are working on fixing. Even still, its just plain fun!

Damn you Kelly, I went on Steam and picked up GTA 4 for $10 and installed the mod as it looks like a lot of fun. Haven't got it to work yet. I need to read through the documentation to figure out what I did wrong.

My pleasure! I believe it was mentioned in the addicted thread about "Enablers" FYI The mod won't automatically run when you start the game. Once you start GTA and actually get into the game you press ALT-P to go "On Duty". You should get a message telling you to drive to the nearest station, blah blah. Your map will now be populated with stations you can go to.

I will post up some links to mods with explanations that will add to your enjoyment of the game.
I will say this. There are a TON of key bindings and the more mods you add the trickier it becomes to find a key to use for something else.
I have pretty much my entire G13 keypad used plus the extra mouse buttons etc.
We will have to try a multiplayer patrol or something at some point.

Here are the mods I am currently using in my game: *NOTE* - BEFORE INSTALLING ANY MODS, BACKUP YOUR CORE GTAIV FOLDER IN CASE YOU HAVE TO REPLACE FILES.__________________________ Liberty City Police Department Pack - Charger, CVPI & Tahoe (ELS) V1.1L - This is the car pack that has a 2011 Marked Crown Vic, 2012 Marked Dodge Charger, 2012 Marked Chevy Tahoe. You can view some pics of the pack at the link. __________________________ Chevrolet Corvette - LCPD Pursuit Unit (ELS) V1.2-AC - Marked Corvette Z06 Pursuit Car - You can view some pics of the car at the link. __________________________ Crown Victoria Police Interceptor - Unmarked (ELS) V4.9-AC - Unmarked 2008 Crown Vic Interceptor. You can view some pics of the car at the link. __________________________ In order to install car mods you will require the following program: Open IV. __________________________ This is a good video tutorial on how to install cars. It *sounds* complicated but its actually really easy: __________________________ The following are all scrip mods that are incredibly easy to install: Emergency Lighting System 7.0 R2 - This mod is the one that makes all the cool lights all over the installed cars (listed above) do their magical dance! Comes with a PDF documet on how to install and also configure the ELS system in game. __________________________ Traffic Flow V5 R2 - There is a bug in the game that after you install custom cars, eventually all the other cars in the game turn into taxis so it ends up being the police and taxis in the game. This mod corrects that and it works great! This is a must have if you install the cars listed above. __________________________ VehicleSpeedControl Mod 2.0 - Basically cruise control for your car so you aren't constantly reving and braking to maintain speed. Rev up to speed, engage, and cruise. Soon as you brake or accelerate, off it goes. Great mod! __________________________ Automatic Plate Reader Script v2.0 - This mod will read the plates of vehicles in front of your cruiser and will alert you to "hits" for wants, insurance, etc. Adds a great random element to patrolling. Enjoy! I suggest with any of these mods that you install one at a time and test for a bit to make sure nothing brings down your system. If you install the cars then installing the ELS mod is pretty much a requirement. One other note about mods. Currently there are issues with ped (pedestrian) mods (different state/county/city uniforms) which can cause serious crashing. Avoid installing any custom officer uniforms and the like. Any questions let me know. Cheers!
