Congrats to Rich, he just plain outclassed everyone there. I would just like to point out that Zeke got wrecked, severely, by two different lapped cars on two different occasions from the lead. And still finished on the podium. WTF is damage set to? Typical race this season for me, run for the podium on Inters, demolish the tires with two laps remaining. Then end up being the only front runner who HAS to pit for tires twice on Softs, lead the race, run in the top 3, plummet to the back of the order and work my way back up again. I really do think there's something wrong with my steering angle/caster/camber or something, when Wagner and Minkler can run exactly the same pace as me but have nearly twice the tire left at the end of a run. What does everyone else run for degrees of rotation, steering angle and caster? Bleh.

On the wheel, I'm running 450-540 degrees of rotation. 20-22 deg steering angle. Don't recall the C/C, it's pretty much whatever Nick's set at Adelaide had.
I just show up, load the tune, adjust gearing, fuel load/pit strategy, and get a feel for the car.

Wheel: 540-700 degrees (depends on track) with in-game axis sensitivity at 100 (so, linear) Steering Lock: Around 20, +2 or -1 depending on the track Camber: 5 - 7 in the front, 1.5 - 3 in the rear. It depends on the track. Caster: I used to run it at max and now I think it's a few degrees back from max
I'd be interested to see a MoTeC file from you to overlay with my data. The only thing I can think of is that you're entering corners with a higher slip angle than I do and you're scrubbing the tires to much.

Well that was one thing Hawks mentioned last season, that I seem to plow the tires too much. It doesn't FEEL that way to me, but I find it hard to believe that someone like Hooper could run the same lap times as me and yet NOT "steer harder," basically.
It's really perplexing to me because in every other form of sim racing up until this point, I'm usually one of the ones who's GOOD on tires.
Would you mind telling me your actual caster number, say from last night? And/or helios... I'm running 540 as well, and my camber in Qualifying is also 5-7. I back it down to 3-4 in the race in the hopes of keeping tire wear even, though it never seems to work.... BUT my steering lock in the garage is up around 26-28... Maybe that has something to do with it.
How much turn do you put into the wheel through the Hairpin at Hidden Valley?

When I was chasing you last night, you seem to brake a bit harder and appear to "throw" the car into the corner. With the aggressive steering angle combined with the abrupt steering input, it's not out of the question to think you may be getting more scrub on the fronts.
I don't think I got much past 90 degrees w/ the wheel, if at all.
My front's weren't an issue at all last night. I did have to watch the throttle though, as my RR did turn red in the final couple laps...though there were still 3 bars of life left.

240 rotation set in the ini file, 12-14 degrees of steering lock to reduce scrub. 20-25 degrees caster depending on the track, 2.5 - 3 degrees neg camber front and rear. 90% for brakes and I don't use parking brake at all. I don't consider myself a "smooth driver" and I like to get the car to turn on exit with my right foot. Great racing with the Minkster in race 1 after rFactor froze on me for a couple of seconds. We were side-by-side a couple of times and on the last lap we both had toasty tires and I just got lucky going into turn 1. I thought I fixed that freezing problem with v1.255g recently but I guess not...rF must not like my Windows 8 64bit. Race 2, shit happens twice (that's racing as they say) and I was lucky to get a podium with Pat Collins on my tail for several laps until the end. "NP" to whoever spun in front of me and whoever else tapped me later. I have to say the V8factor car model is incredible. After losing the nose and sustaining heavy front suspension damage (my Falcon crabbed more to the left than my real 1985 Toyota Van) in race 2, braking was absolutely terrible because of the lack of downforce. And on-power was relatively unaffected, as you'd expect if you had only front end damage.

| race fast lap inters | race fast lap soft | | 2013 (TC) | 1:08.849 | 1:07.265 | | 2014 (no TC) | 1:09.055 | 1:07.570 | |
Some comparison between seasons. In 2013, some of the front running cars were using TC (and I think the fastest lap cars were) and in 2014, TC is prohibited. I realize these are different drivers but it appears that not using traction control costs between 0.2 and 0.3 seconds on a fast lap.

Chris, would you mind posting a setup? You don't have to give me a super secret winning one, just your basic layout, I want to see if I'm honestly just WAY out... Because if I brake and/or steer the way you do, I go straight and off into the weeds. The only way I can get these cars to turn is by throwing it in... I've got to wonder if everyone is running super-loose (soft front/stiff rear) setups compared to mine, and then just steering super careful?
Zeke's is interesting though... super low lock, but super-high caster... Hmph.

How much turn do you put into the wheel through the Hairpin at Hidden Valley? If I get time tonight I'll run a lap with a camera over my shoulder so you can see the steering inputs.

Me, race winning setup? Ha! But yeah, I can. It's the set that Nick shared publicly at Adelaide. I'll try to remember to do it when I get home tonight.

oh man what a night! race one i had some good battles passing was kinda difficult . i had a few bad driver moments, but over all pretty happy with my performance.
Race 2 didn't go so well. i had shifter problems from the get go. and the car was jumping gears. up and down, and all at once the car got stuck in third gear. going down the straight. i jumped of the racing line . and got it into 6th gear and gave up at that point. this is my second shifter in 2 years really bummed that this keeps happening.... but o well that racing mechanical failure are but of racing. suuck it up and move on to the next battle...

I mean, I DON'T normally throw the car in super-hard, in every other kind of simracing. It's just the only way I can get THESE to turn.
There's gotta be something steering-wise I've got wrong.
