You will need to find a server to play on if you want multiplayer.

I believe if you are on the same LAN then you can make a room and it will work but otherwise you need a server.
Some of the more experienced rFactor server hosts can probably respond better but typically you can't run a server and a game from the same machine but don't take this as gospel. That is why I said typically.
If you installed one of the mods the crew uses here, hit up the GBR bigwigs and ask if you can give your buddy the password so you guys can play. Worst they say is "nay".
That would be the easiest solution methinks.

You can serve from the PC you are racing on. Hawks did/does it for our V8 Races. I'm sitting in the dentist office so it's a little hard to type out the instructions. The option is in one of the main menu choices. Wait for Hawks to come along. .

cool as F1 as in the actual game there is a bit that says 'open room' or some sort of thing im surprised that you would "have" to use a server. but its good if i have to, that i can run it from my game PC as other one is in pieces lol and has no PSU

Thanks for that clarification. I am surprised yet again by rFactor. Gotta love it.

Hawks or someone who has run that way would be best to chime in on it. I got an old machine running the dedicated server part of the game.

awsome post F1 many thanks mate. so going by that i should be able to 'create & host' a room for me & him. im just trying to make this as painless as possible for him lol as we/he is used to plug & play console. im just trying to create as plug & play as possible as i dont mind a bit of pain lol i think im going to have to eventually setup my own dedicated server for youse to use if you want & for me & him to use. so time to setup my own teamspeak lol ohhhh the pain

I don't see why you can't run him on one of our practice servers, but that is ultimately F1's or Spaz's call, depending on what your running.
