just a thought, not sure how your server is set Maybe it could be as simple as removing the 2010 and community edition folders of the server and 2012 if you have them Hm, I just noticed that I was launching with both V8SC and V8SC11 cars. Do you know what the difference is? Feel free to shoot me any ideas you may have via PM. I'm even starting to wonder if the high-ping Aussie drivers are causing the server to stutter as it aggregates data... that said we had two Aussies last night and things on my server were better than in the past. The most laggy driver from last night (Ed) is in the US.

Ed was all over the place and with very random patterns. Paying a few dollars to race the best guys/rooms online would not be a problem for me. This is the best gathering of racers and races there is in my opinion.

Just a side note on the servers: I run the XD plug in for car info, I've noticed on the race server I will nearly always get close to or 100% engine life at the start of the race and in FI's practice server when we race on it I can't get more then 40-50% engine life at race start. Wonder what that is all about, some setting somewhere?

I do not know what's up with XD. With GID I'm starting at 100% engine life on every server I run at. I think we know that XD is a bit trippy even in HistorX as I've seen you guys ESCing to get more engine life. Because of that I'm not going to worry about it unless someone actually blows an engine (which is extremely rare in V8FU unless you're stuck in sticky sand).
It could be that I'm running 1.255c on the server and Jason is running a different version. The guy that wrote GID (Max/Fazerbox) once said that engine life isn't reported via telemetry, it has to be read from memory. It's not inconceivable that XD isn't reading the right location in the 1.255c executable.

As for the server issue, apparently my machine and/or connection is unable to handle 25+ cars. It does sound like Dale's server handled it well for the most part, so we will continue to look at our options. One option may be to ask you all to donate a few bucks each if we need to move to a paid server. Some of you have already donated, so you would not need to donate again. I believe this may be the direction we are headed, but I'll keep you posted. will gladly donate some more mate

First off, congratulations to Jeff on the win. You are truly awesome man! Also, a huge thank you to Dale, John and Jason for managing us on the hardware and server side. You guys rock.
Hmm, interesting race last night. It was encouraging to see that Dale's server could handle the 29 drivers. I also would be more than happy to chip in some $$$$ for a paid server option if we decide to go that direction.
As far as my race, it was a disaster. Last night was the first V8 Supercars race where I seriously considered rage quitting even though I did not have any sort of equipment issue. (I have dropped before where my wheel broke, or my computer crashed, but that is different of course) In order to avoid a wreck on the first lap of the final restart I went off track and cut a corner. That resulted in a stop and go for me. At that point, I had no hope to get a top 15 finish, or even finish on the lead lap. The rest of the night was spent trying to avoid collisions with cars that were lapping me. I also had difficulty getting around Ed Durbin since his ping was so high and his car was floating thru the air as if it were built by the Galactic Empire. I got lapped by the top 5 or 10 guys multiple times. Do any of you fast guys know what that feels like? Seriously, feel free to say no. Let me give you a hint - IT TOTALLY SUCKS! The last thing I want to do is wreck you guys, because I know many of you have worked very hard on the practice track and in the garage for this one race. But, its no fun for me to worry about that blue flag. I stopped doing the GT Challenge series in iRacing for this very reason, even though I love those cars. The fields were too big, with no splits, and thus there was too much of a talent gap between the top and bottom. I was getting lapped hopelessly and not having any fun. Plus, the fast guys were hitting me as they were passing. For the same reasons, I also do not do the iRacing F1 series, even though I love driving F1 cars.
I understand that the stewards have decided that we will not split the field, but the feedback on this issue has overwhelmingly come from the top half of the talent group. I have not heard much from the bottom half. I am not asking the stewards to revisit their decision, I just wanted to make sure that the fast guys understand the anxiety it creates to hammer on us slower guys race after race after race. I have heard the same admonitions so many times, I cannot keep track of them anymore. The bottom line is that its the lapping cars job to complete the pass safely. Remember, you can see me better than I can see you. Its my job to not block you and to avoid any abnormal track movement that could induce a collision.
As you can probably tell, I have more fun on Spazcar night, where everyone is in it until the end. But, I also value that GBR V8 Supercars is run differently and is more consistent with real life racing. I regularly run multiple split races in iRacing and there is no fast guy/slow guy mentality. Indeed, the races that have been the most fun for me are the NASCAR iRacing events, where we have 200-300 racers and thus a lot of splits with drivers with very similar iRatings and talent levels.
I am not suggesting we switch to a different, more-iRacing-like mentality. That mentality is fine where it is, we can leave it there. Just understand the repercussions that flow from one big room. The fast guys love the big grid, naturally, because its more real life. But, for us slow guys, it is more of an exercise in frustration to have no hope of seeing the podium, let alone the lead lap. Don't get me wrong, I still had fun last night. I had a great battle with Sheldon. The problem is that I had to avoid so many fast guys that I could not battle him and other slow guys the way I wanted to.
With regard to first lap pile ups, we should consider implementing either rolling starts or a rule that there is no passing until after the first turn. I saw the same car behind me last night go three wide on each and every start and in the process he either caused, or was likely to cause multiple collisions. Is it that important to get ahead of me even before the first turn? If you are faster, you will get around me. Trust me.
My two cents guys, take em or leave em.

I doubt anyone would have an issue donating towards a dedicated server if needed.

I also do not intend on incorporating a rolling start. I want to stay as true to this series as possible. Sorry to be dickish, but they did rolling starts this year at Symmons Plains.

I understand where zero7159/lawyer/craig is coming from. I don't want to mess up a top 10 guy by being in his way, but I was also battling with Sheldon. He was behind me but so were 2 other guys. I see the blue flag, move over so they can go by and all of a sudden Sheldon goes by. I just gave him an easy overtake because I was nervous about taking out somebody lapping me. I know there is no perfect solution for this and it is up to me to step up my driving ability. I just wanted to let zero7159/lawyer/craig know he isn't alone. I respect the hell out of all of you guys. The skill you all have and the dedication to this "hobby". I started 14th which is my best start so far this young season, but after turn 1 i was down to 16-17 just because I was trying to be cautious and not crash into anybody, but that didn't seem to matter. All I can do is try and get better and watch out for myself. I will try to get out of the way of you fast guys, but I don't think I am just going to pull over and tap the brakes like I have been doing. I will still observer and respect the faster drivers and blue flags. If there is something I can watch or read on proper racing etiquitte please let me know, I want to be a gentleman race as much as possible. I can't praise this group of racers enough. The dedication and time put into this is by far the best I have ever seen. I too will be happy to donate to a server if that is the decision.

i think the crew is getting used to hot lapping and and not so much driving in the pack. with that being said there is one fix we could do? V8 practice server could be set up with a 5-10 lap races during the week. so a pack of drivers can learn work. we used to do this a long time ago and it worked. Great idea, I still like the idea of having a practice/familiarity race on the off wednesday but I know you guys run another series on the other Wednesday so that won't work but this is a great next option. Maybe bump it up to a 15 lapper? As far as rolling starts I say we keep it as they do it in real life, providing the game can accommodate. If they do rolling starts in real life then we should here. If they do formation laps where they come to a stop and then start same here (if game allows, I know rFactor2 does but I don't know if rF1 does also). I have to say the quality of racing here doesn't warrant splitting the field. If there were wrecks all over the place on every lap and it was looking like amateur hour out there then maybe it would need to be investigated but I've seen nothing but quality racing going on in all 3 races I've been in.

I also do not intend on incorporating a rolling start. I want to stay as true to this series as possible. Sorry to be dickish, but they did rolling starts this year at Symmons Plains. The rolling start is the second half of the same race. All "starts" are still standing. Not trying to be "dickish", just pointing it out to you. ;p I don't think we want a "half time" for our races as that would surely cause more issues.

I had an ok race for the amount of time I put into it. I only started practicing about an hour before the race and I finished smack dab in the middle. I had 14 cars ahead of me and 14 cars behind me.
As for splitting the field, I am against it. I have been near the bottom half lately, but that is because I haven't been practicing as much as I could be. If I put enough time in, I have made top 10 before.
As for the starts, I am getting very frustrated. I listen to the race stewards and take it seriously when they say to "take it easy on the start". I have practiced starting and I feel I can do ok at it now. I base my start on the cars ahead of me. If they start fast, so do I. If they start slow, I back off. I don't want to be the one to cause the big wreck. When I first started racing here, I caused a few wrecks at the start of some races and felt very bad about it, so I don't want to do it again.
I don't think we need a rolling start, but maybe some better enforcement and penalties for not heeding the "take it easy at the start" which we hear before every race. I would agree to a no passing rule for the first corner or few until the track opens up to the first real straight. Whatever it takes to stop the madness which has seemed to get worse lately.
Edit: I would also have no problem contributing for a better server solution.

BTW Craig, The 2 times I had to pass you last night (once before and once after my pitstop), text book example of being over taken. You kept your line and speed up through the corners, waited until I had a run alongside down the straight, and rolled off the throttle slightly before the end of the straight yielding the line into the corner. Perfect job. I was a little concerned how I was going to get by, as I was only marginally faster on the Inters, but you handled it beautifully. The biggest issue I see with splitting the field is there is no good way to do it. Yeah there is half dozen guys that week in and week out that always rise to the top. But where would you split? There is a large group of us mid-pack guys (yeah you Tony ) that would end up getting split up. And I don't think there are many that want that. I don't stand a chance at winning, hell, even getting on the podium. Just getting inside the top 10 is work, so much so that if I can pull off a top 10 in the V8s, I'm as happy as winning a race in one of our other series. That's just the way it is in a competitive series. But to be honest, wins are nice, but it's the battles throughout race with the people here is what does it for me. Some of the races I've had in the past w/ Tony & Kelly are prime examples, buried down in the pack, it was the back and forth battles, not the finish positions that set the tone of the race for us. But admittedly, my views may not be the same as the majority, as I could give 2 shits about stats. Never been a stat guy, and hell, I only loosely chase points. I'm just hear to bang on some cars I love to drive. If I have a good outing...bonus (but that doesn't happen too often ).

You guys should also understand that not all tracks are this tight. We've had 2 races in a row and about to go to a 3rd race where the laps times are about 1 min or less. We will have bigger tracks to race on. We all voted to go with the actual V8 season, so it is what it is.
