I'm with you on that helios. I know that the only way I'm going to win a race is if the top ten dudes take each other out other than that I can forget it. But I've set my own challenging goal for the season. I just want to sneak in and finish up in the top 10. Maybe that would make the racing more enjoyable for people if they set a goal for the racing season that's challenging but not crazy.
Every team goes into the season with "Win Championship" as the number one goal on the chalkboard but under that are the real goals. "Beat team A" "Finish in top 10" "Just finish" whatever those goals may be.

Jimmy, if you can find the overtakes I did on Craig in the replay, he performed a textbook example of how to do it. 1. Hold your line. 2. Be predictable. (This is the biggest one. You may have good intentions pulling off line and slowing up, but odds are good if a faster car is lining up an overtake, he is already looking at the hole you're pulling into). I had a couple close calls last night due to this. 3. Wait for the faster car to commit (starts pulling alongside), then you can assist the overtake by rolling (don't slam on the brakes) off the throttle to yield the line to the faster car into the next corner. Let me know if you want, and I can try to work with you if you'd like. I've got some pretty good experience at being overtaken, ask the efnet guys (John, Rich, Sweeney, KJ).

we just have to be careful on startup fellas.. buuut I have to admit on the last restart last night I did 'squeeze' in between 2 cars off the line as I noticed on the other starts I was getting away better off the line than them. it was probably a bit dickish of me to do (apologies)

I will try to get out of the way of you fast guys, but I don't think I am just going to pull over and tap the brakes like I have been doing. I will still observer and respect the faster drivers and blue flags. If there is something I can watch or read on proper racing etiquitte please let me know, I want to be a gentleman race as much as possible. I race a lot of multi-class racing both in the slow and the fast cars. The general rule-of-thumb there is that the car being overtaken maintains the racing line because it's predictable. The faster car will negotiate a path around. V8 racing is a little trickier because on the straight we're all about the same speed. In that case most of the passing is in braking zones or a slingshot down a long straight. When I'm lapping someone I'll either announce myself on TS or I'll flash the headlights. That doesn't mean "get out of my way" it just means "hey, I'm here, we're not racing for position and (if it's safe) I'm probably going to dive inside on the next corner so if you could delay your turn-in a fraction of a second I'll be on my way". If you have room and want to safely slide over to the non-racing side of a straight then that's appreciated because the overtaker knows what that means. It's not a requirement in this league although other leagues are different in that respect. The main things to avoid are being unpredictable when being lapped or fighting the overtaking car for track position. If a faster car gets held up in the twisties because you're on your line and at your race pace then so be it. There's no hard and fast rules for lapping/being lapped. These situations are dynamic and once we get comfortable together it happens naturally. Someone above mentioned losing a place due to lapping traffic. That unfortunately (or fortunately depending how you come out) is part of racing. I find that over the course of a season that I win as many places as I lose in those situations. Hawks and I had a great battle at Oran Park once where we were picking our way though traffic and swapped positions a few times as a result.

You guys should also understand that not all tracks are this tight. We've had 2 races in a row and about to go to a 3rd race where the laps times are about 1 min or less. We will have bigger tracks to race on. We all voted to go with the actual V8 season, so it is what it is. And don't change. It's great stuff to me. This series is arguably one of the top 3 series I've been in. Depending on the moon the order can shift any day. lol. This is top quality stuff. And a big tip of the hat and thanks to you seahawks for running this and to your henchmen. I have to be honest, the videos drew me in and the novelty of running the V8's but after 3 races I'm just hooked on the racing itself. You don't have to make another video and I'll still be here like a dope fiend waiting for the next race. The only thing that would make this better is if we could do LAN races. By the time everyone if on fiber and the latency is down to next to zero I'll probably be too old to race anymore. lol

Also, a huge thank you to Dale, John and Jason for managing us on the hardware and server side. You guys rock. I know it takes a lot work to organize this... and then you have to hear the belly-aching! Thanks for staying committed. Is it that important to get ahead of me even before the first turn? If you are faster, you will get around me. Or they would have qualified ahead of you I was checking up a bit last night. I try to stay behind the car in front unless they bog their start. Restarts should be saved for technical problems only, but I agree that there should be consequences for overly aggressive driving, particularly at the start and in the bottom half of the pack.

I have to apologize to all for my connection issues last night. I was unaware that someone in my household was competing for bandwidth by uploading photos while I was trying to race. That won't happen again. As for the race, my feelings are in line with Zero's. My setup and race strategy was a disaster and it went downhill from there. Being one of the slower drivers is no fun when you have to constantly watch your rear. I think the rear of the pack understands they are most likely not going to win but we have our own race objectives. We are still competing with ourselves, and some fellow racers. Last night was no fun. as far as the starts go I feel we should not be restarting due to crashes. You crash, you pay with position loss. Someone crashes you, expect an apology or racing will take care of it sometime down the road.

No worries Ed. At least we got the "hovering car" mystery sorted!

Yeah, sucks that it was happening to you Ed but at least we know it wasn't the server.

As Totalo mentioned do you think a formation lap might help with getting tires and brakes up to temp like they do IRL? Not sure if that is possible in rfactor or not. This is a fine idea. The real V8s certainly do it, and warmed up brakes would help.

Congrats to Jeff on your win!
After practicing this week I felt like 4's and some 5's would be my pace. started practice off before the race, decided to up change the front shocks and brake pressure and stuck with the soft tire plan. Bam - mid 3, then a few low ones then poled it at a 2.8 I literally pulled it out of my ass lol. I knew it wouldn't be long till Jeff and rich would of set the pace so I followed the best I could. Hadn't rolled it all week, well did that during the race. thought the damage repair would do me but did anyway and what 9 sec pit, fixed everything plus tires and gas. wow. hmmmm... anyway, proceeded to try and miss someone spinning, head on sorry guy, then did not look coming back on - a real noob so sorry to pavel for that. stupid on my part. but have to admit, that last lap was insane. dale, chris, rich and kevin and i all hammering it out. very cool. and i would not have chanced it with any of you except my fellow teammates, but I went for a hot sneak EFNET RULE - my fender was there LOL and kinda put my nose into rich's door only because I took his turn in away. sorry fellas - if a plow fits, then its truly golden now.... lol
as far as the grid size, i've enjoyed nothing but full size fields for several years now and the reason is real simple, you always have someone to race with no matter how good you are. i can't think of anything more boring than hot lapping by yourself. it's daunting at first but once you get used to it, it really ends up epic not to mention, you become a better driver yourself. patience, it will come. cheers fellas, see you all next time
