Awesome stuff guys. I will take it all in this weekend. Keep them coming. I still want to post my crappy specs to see if I would benefit from band-aiding the thing.

Here is the PC I'm using, which I would consider "budget". I bought it about 4 years ago. I've upgraded the operating system, the video card twice, and the power supply twice.
AMD Phenom Quad Core 2.6 ghz. Asus 3A78 motherboard 8 gigs of RAM 500 GB Hard Drive (7200 rpm) Windows 7 64 bit Nvidia 560ti OC 1 gb video card Nvidia 8400gs (low end second card simply to plug in the extra monitor for using SoftTh for triple screens) Just bought the Raidmax Rx-850AE Power Supply yesterday as my 600 watt supply would shut down occasionally.
My guess is if you were to purchase a comparable machine today, it would probably run around $500 - $650. -------------------- It runs rFactor on triples great. I average around 50-70 fps with maxed out settings with 15 cars on the grid for most tracks. I've got the itch to upgrade and go with SLI, but my motherboard only has 1 PCIx16 slot. I think I'll wait until we start using rFactor 2, then will probably take the dive and get a new computer.

Although we can play with the specs a little bit (i.e. - give folks the option of an AMD 6870 or Nvidia 560ti GPU, and bump the hard drive up to 1 TB), I think this is a good picture of what our "bare bones" recommended set up should be.

If your going to call it Bare Bones (Min. recommended specs) It should have a nvidia 9800GT 1GB card in it. (You can run this game on full graphics with this old card, just ask Timber)

Good point Wolf. I ran the 9800GT before I got the 560ti and it worked very well. Just sold that card for $60 on Craigslist. Slowly putting $ away for the Clubsport Wheel when it's released. Hiding it in the rFactor box under my TV so the wife doesn't spend it first!

I question whether we should recommend a 9800 GT, even for the bare bones system, when yes it can run rFactor, but no, it cannot run much else. You can buy an Asus AMD 6870 from newegg for $169.99 after rebate. It seems to me that we should recommend that, even for the bare bones system, so that guys have some level of future proofing. Just my two cents, take em or leave em!!!

The 9800 GT is a good card, and can run almost anything out atm. Just ask Timber or Codiah. And under $100.00. And Bare Bones means Bare Bones, not sorta bare bones. lol

Let's recommend a 9800 GT for the bare bones build, a 560ti or 6870 for the mid level build and Dark's custom all out PC for the dream machine. I will post more details this weekend.

OK, here are my recommendations for the bare bones budget PC and the mid-level PC: I. Mid-Level Gaming PC1) Antec One Hundred Case - $ 74.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168111291832) Asrock P67 Extreme 4 mobo - $169.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168131572653) Intel Core I5 CPU - $ 224.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-4) Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler with Dual 120 mm fans - $33.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-5) Corsair 850W PSU - $ 134.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168171390226) PNY Overclocked Nvidia 560ti GPU X2 - $ 229.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133381or Asus AMD 6870 GPU X2 - $169.99 (after rebate) www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121418&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-7) Seagate 1 TB 7200 RPM HD - $109.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148697&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-8) Samsung DVD Burner - $15.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168271512449) 8 GB Corsair 1600 DDR3 SD RAM - $42.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-10) Windows 7 64-bit - $99.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-Total Cost as of 3/10/12 from Newegg - $ 1367.89 (with Nvidia 560ti GPU in SLI) or $1247.89 (with Asus AMD 6870 GPU in Crossfire)Comments - This is largely the same as my gaming PC (I use the 560tis in SLI), except I had to swap out some comparable parts, same manufacturer, because some that I bought last summer are no longer available. I have had an excellent experience with this system, I can run almost anything maxed out. This system drives my multi-monitor set up quite well. I get 70-80 FPS in iRacing 5760 X 1080 with all eye candy on (just got it to run last night, woohoo). Yes, you can go with the cheaper Antec One Hundred case. I love mine, it has plenty of extra cooling options and ample space. Don't skimp on the CPU, PSU, GPU and MOBO. I didn't and I am so glad. Yes, you need a 1 TB hard drive, even though hard drives are expensive right now. Go 7200 RPM. The Core i5 2500K CPU is the best value in CPUs right now, and it performs at an amazingly high level. II. Bare Bones Budget Gaming PC1) Antec One Hundred Case - $74.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168111291832) AMD Phenom II X4 965 Quad Core Processor - $134.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168191037273) ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS - $94.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168131317674) 8 GB Corsair DDR3 1333 mbz SDRAM - $39.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233192&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-5) Asus Radeon 6870 1 GB Graphics Card - $169.99 after rebate www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121418&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-6) Samsung DVD Burner - $15.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168271512447) Seagate 1 TB 7200 RPM HD - $109.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148697&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-8) Corsair 600 W PSU - $49.99 after rebate (!!!) www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-9) Windows 7 64 bit - $99.99 www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-Total Cost (as of 3/10/12 from Newegg) - $ 790.91Comments - I know, I know, I did not include the 9800 GT GPU that many of you like. I just cannot recommend a GPU that is four years old. Please forgive me. Moreover, I checked newegg and the 9800 GT is out of stock. Its only $100 cheaper than my recommendation, the Asus Radeon 6870. The 6870 is IMO the sweet spot right now in terms of value. It is ranked in the Top 15 in PC Gaming's GPU "Hottest Hardware" list, just below the 560ti (but $60 cheaper). This system is very similar to my budget desktop PC, and it has worked wonderfully. You are not going to be able to drive iRacing on three screens at 5760 X 1080, but you can definitely run it maxed on a single screen, or at lower resolutions on three screens. Also, keep in mind that with AMD, you only need one 6870 to run Eyefinity triple screen, which is easy to use and you can mix and match monitors with different sizes, resolutions and sync polarity.

OK, I missed a few of the most recent posts but thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I will try to condense this all into the second post for further comment. I hope it helps out a few of the new comers.
OK, so I found out that my machine is actually 6 years old and not 5 like I thought. I have been running rF but the detail and the smoothness is not all that. I will post up my FPS and other settings. I just want new people to know that you can actually play this game at a tollerable level to what I must call a seriously old PC. Below are the current specs (don't laugh, it did what I needed it to do until rF came along which includes Photoshop and CAD, abliet not lightening fast).
It is a Dell DM051 shipped 4/10/06 Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE (I am remoting in so I can't get into the properties to check if it has 128 or 256 MB) 4 GB RAM 250 GB HD 7200 RPM Not sure what the PSU capacity is.
Would it be worth it at all to band-aid this thing or just stick a fork in it and start to butter up the wife? A new system is not in the cards for a LONG while. Would a mild upgrade to the GPU be worth it if I can find the one you guys mentioned above (the one that Lawyer is cringing about, lol)
Thanks, gents.

It might not be powerful enough to run the 9800 GT. If it is, you can go with a 9800 GT, if you can find one for under $100, and that will let you get better performance from rFactor for the time being. Long term, however, you gotta butter the wife up. Six years is an eternity in the PC world. I am currently reading an article in the April issue of Custom PC magazine, in which they discuss building a PC capable of running Skyrim at max settings for less than $400. I did one of their low budget builds last summer, when I built my desktop, although I ultimately added the 6870 GPU to it. I will post the specs of the new Custom PC build. Perhaps we can use those specs for the "bare bones" model, rather than what I previously posted?
