Hey everyone! I just got accepted into the league and this will be my first race. I fully expect to be a back marker haha! Just looking for some clean fun racing. That being said, are there any major setup changes from the baseline setup I should be looking at making for Okayama? I just started getting into setup changes a few months back and sometimes still feel like I'm shooting in the dark.

Hey Cody. Welcome to the group. I'm far from the best one here to give tuning advice, and might be with you near the back most races, but as a quick cheatsheet for suspension and tire setups as I'm practicing I've found this article on Speed Secrets to be pretty good. There's a much more complete guide here, though. Also, Jimmy (neverender158) posted this really good document in the Tweaks and Tuning board a while back that I still go back to. For more general race driving instruction, the DrivingFast.net website has a lot of good tips. If you want to go old school and actually read a book, anything that Ross Bentley does is worth checking out. He teaches race drivers and a lot of what he talks about applies to simracing also. His book Ultimate Speed Secrets is great. It looks like he's also got a podcast (which I'm subscribing to right now).

You beat me to it Joe.
It's all about figuring out your driving style and then making small changes and running some laps. Then make some more minor changes and lapping again.
For me i have a problem with understeer so I soften the front springs a tick or two, stiffen the rear and take the rear anti roll bar as low as it will go. Then i look at caster and camber.
Once you get something that feels good you can use that as a base for other tracks.

Welcome Cody. I hope you like the small but great bunch we have here. About setups, I can send you one of mineĀ“s when we are together on the server. But I dont mess much with setup. To me is more about adapt my driving to the way the car behaves and go from there. I do small changes in steering lock, brake pressure and sometimes tires pressures. But nothing really beyond that. Not for the V8s at least.

Thank you everyone for the replies! Great advise and information from everybody. I'll try it all tomorrow, as the baseline setup seems really oversteer happy to me. I am also relatively new to the V8 and may just need to get used to it.

I finally had a chance to take laps and, man, there's a lot of undulation in this track. Very demanding and where you do get a chance to breathe a little in a straight, you're looking at some heavy braking zones at the next turn. It's going to be a fun one to race with some competition.
Adding to Jimmy's post and Cody's question, for me these cars are a bear to handle. They're heavy cars, on narrow tires with a bunch of horsepower. They demand a lot of patience to control the transfer of weight without crossing the edge. For me, controlling braking and over-steer are the biggest challenges.
On this track the tune that seems to be working so far is one where I've softened the front end by reducing the front suspension and roll bar just a little from the default tune. I also dropped the rear roll-bar setting one click but kept the default suspension pressure. I haven't touched the bounce and rebound settings at all yet and I'm still feeling out the camber and tire pressure settings. It's going to be a work in progress.

Thank you! My biggest issue in the Super V8 is that I'm not sure if I have too much oversteer on exit because of a setup issue, or just because of how much power, and how little grip the tires provide. Meaning I'll be chasing something that I'll never be able to achieve, and end up hurting the balance in the process.

Yea I think the stock setup has the soft tires. I just can't get back to the throttle until I'm basically out of the corner and wheel is straight.

I'm not sure if this is common but it happens to me... Make sure when you assign your pedal axes in AMS that you move the pedal slowly and smoothly. If you stab at the pedals quickly, they'll be calibrated by the game almost as on/off switches making accelerating and braking more difficult. However, these cars do require careful throttle application and it's even harder when the tires are hot/worn.
