I tell ya after having rF1/2 im not real keen on sims that cant be modded I wont be buying till we can have our own cars/series etc this is why pCars, iRacing, GT6, FM5 etc etc is waaaay down on my list you can only have what they got/give ya That is a fair criticism of Assetto Corsa and Project CARs, but not so fair as to GT6. That game is going to have more than 1200 cars and 39 tracks at launch, with more to come via DLC. Are there really cars and tracks out there for the modders to do, assuming for sake of argument that you could mod a console game, which I realize you cannot? I know you like GT5 I don't mind it buuuut out of the 1000 cars GT5 had me & mate used 5 lol so having 1200 cars where 1195 will never be used tbh because theres 220 skylines 180 subarus etc its just not for me but I see how you & a lot of people like the different cars

Pending their pricing strategies, AC could prove to be pricey. The "discounted" pre-sale price is just shy of $50. If the upcoming DLC is going to be free...OK. Are they going to charge full price for the sim upfront, then take another $20 every couple months...I'll likely pass...especially if the only add-ons you can get is through purchase of them. How about servers...are they going to cost anything? Can it be run offline?
Some of this stuff probably has answers, I just need to look. But that is why I'm sitting on the fence. $50 is a lot of coin to drop for a fairly stripped offering (minimal cars & tracks). I've got too many other money fed hobbies, so I need to choose carefully. But like I mentioned earlier, if the add-on content is free...I'm ok with it. I've been bitten once by a sim that turned very expensive, that I almost never run, I don't care to make that mistake again. So I'll sit on the fence until everything is finalized and I can make an informed decision.

Don't worry Chris, this thread will be populated with plenty of detail once I download the game, most likely on Day 1. That is my little contribution to GBR, I buy the crap, such as NASCAR the Game and WRC 3 and 4, so you guys do not have to.

I think I read a similar post by them back in July of 2012 with a release in spring 2013 If I read and understood the last 2 paragraphs properly....there giving us a beta of close to finished content with damage, ai and multiplayer to come later? So a hot lapping demo like RRE They could have just said they will be adding content to the tech demo every two weeks Nice that there giving what was suppose to be bonus content for the pre buyers to everyone on release and a discount on steam when I convert that to cdn $ it will be around $60 I hope this game lives up to the hype that it's fanboys have created I am in no rush to buy it on release day. There's still a few things I wanna see before I throw money at it...mainly the quality of mods and if it will compare to the ingame quality. In a prior release note they mentioned missing features and content on release day which just makes this another $60 wip I don't need I just want a fully developed game that functions properly . Its funny how were over 7 yrs since most of these dev teams last titles were released and were still looking at delays and unfinished products.....time well managed

There's a very good possibility you can cross off pcars from the non modding list. There's been positive feedback from the devs it will be supported and if it goes through it will be the best modding quality available on any sim! How so u ask ? Modders will have to submit there mod to SMS they will review the mod if they feel it's worth and there's enough community interest they will update the textures and fix any issues and tested by there physic consultants so the quality matches the ingame content than release it on the forum so the mod stays secure.....again it's not confirmed I don't know why all the dev teams don't do this? As for rf1/2 it's great there's endless amounts of add ons but in all honesty I've maybe found a hand full of quality mods I've thought were well done and yet to have one I haven't had some sort of technical issue with. The other thing I've never been able to wrap my head around is people keep nominating there favorite racer/mod as the purist most realistic sim available.....meanwhile there running mods created by some computer geek with no rl racing experience or knowledge of the cars physic they created how can some one claim it's realistic without working with any pro teams or drivers? ATM I can only think of of a few modding teams that claim to have worked with drivers...but very rarely name the driver. On isi forum there was a thread regarding modding and it talked about how back in rf1 modding teams were just 3d designers and painters, they didn't need to worry about physics cause they just took the available tires available from isi...tweaked a few parameters and named it a different compound. Now that chassis flex, active suspension climate etc have been added to games modding has become quit a challenge for the teams and without the developers help your gonna see a lot of shit mods or the current trend.....old content conversions or illegal rips from other games which don't implement next gen features. Physics aside iam still skeptical that there's a modding team out there capable of creating content that will match the content in AC and if they can its gonna take a long while and result in very few mods being released at the beginning

There's a few cars on that list that raise an eyebrow. Not so muck on the tracks yet. I thought Spa was on the list too?
I'm sure I will be buying it on day 1. I'm impressed with the tech demo. The physics felt good and the graphics were very good. AC has a lot of promise, but not holding my breathe just yet.
All these "sims in progress" are fun to mess around with, but not yet viable options to run online series. Doesn't even sound like AC will have AI or online for awhile.

Sorry for the error.

I had the impression for a while now that AC was intending to be modding friendly, hopefully that is true.
The idea of having the mods given a look-over and approval by the developer is an interesting one and would seem to have a lot of benefits. I wonder though what would happen to mods that don't actually have licences for the cars/tracks they are modelling? It seems likely that these would not get thru an 'official' approval process. Anyone with interest in driving/racing a Porsche is likely to be sol in this case...

change one small detail and give it a fantasy name is the easiest way around things just like what sms has done in pcars. If a dev team cant afford some licenses theres no way in hell a mod team is gonna pay for one. Iam quit surprised isi never took this route from the begining.....it would completely make sense being a small dev team with limited cash flow for big licenses, create the platforum and physics produce a fantasy car and track like the rf1 lite version and have the community pay there $50 for it and have them create and submit the content. Licenses is what kills the overall profits for these companies and when you think about it, its pretty pointless why pay xxx$ to have a digital car or track in the game when a modder can create the same thing change one little detail and give it to us for free? on the other hand the big dev teams claim these licenses draw the masses and brings in the $$$ and than theresthe few anal hardcores who will only drive authentic licensed content cause they believe its giving them the ultimate simulation ....which I can sort of understand but for only laser scanned tracks the cars to me are just digital replicas

Toban is a very good fantasy track and although I cant recall what the default car is it was likely not an expensive license.

change one small detail and give it a fantasy name is the easiest way around things just like what sms has done in pcars. They have, albeit in a limited number Brianza (rF1 and rF2) = Monza Northamptonshire (rF1) = Silverstone Barcelona (rF1) = Catalunya Nuerburg (rF1) = Nurburgring

It makes sense and saves money that can be put back into future developments. @ Fred as for Ac beining modder friendly....they say yes it's fully modable, but they also said the same about Netkar pro which ended up only having the interface and ingame gadget addons from what I could find on the web. I would imagine if they went that route again we would have heard something.
